Guillermo del Toro will produce a stop-motion of “Pinocchio,” directed by Gris Grimly, an artist known for his whimsically grisly children books, including his twisted adaptation of the classic wooden-boy tale by Carlo Collodi (above). The Jim Henson Company is also involved.
del Toro says “The idea came from Gris, and everybody loves his book about it. The original story is far more perverse and spooky and semi-necrophilia vibe to it in certain aspects. Gris certainly has that vein in him, he wants to do this with that original spookiness in it, we are trying to get it going. (Dark Horizons via Bloody Disgusting)
“semi-necrophilia”? ok, so long as it’s semi… But if they try to turn Jiminy Cricket into a wood-bore beetle I’m bailing.
