If they snub The Dark Knight for Best Picture, it’s doubtful anyone will. Not that that should be criteria for nominating any film, to save the telecast from ratings hell — it just so happens that The Dark Knight is second only to Wall-E on the critics’ top ten charts and clocks in as one of the best reviewed films of the year and the highest moneymaker of the year. It’s a no-brainer. Except that it isn’t. Anyway, ABC is doing a few things to help their telecast – they are offering movie ads for the first time, and, according to this article, they are cutting their costs for advertising. Pixar’s Up is said to be the first taker, but other films, even films that could be Oscar contenders, might show up.
I have a feeling, though, that if the Dark Knight is in for Best Picture, ad sales are going to skyrocket.
