After a decade of this nonsense there are few things that excite me anymore. But when the Carpetbagger comes to LA. there is a tiny bit of excitement that blooms for me.¬† His take on all things Oscar is one reason why I don’t shoot myself in the face every Fall as Oscar season kicks into gear. This may be why I was a tad enraged when I read this reactionary¬†ill-informed piece about him. On the one hand, one doesn’t want to help spike the traffic over there at Slate, on the other hand…
Whatever it is we do, David Carr is probably the best at it. But you have to be a regular reader to get this. Following his take, from the beginning of the season onward, is what makes the Carpetbagger such a great daily read. Yeah, most of the time it’s from a bemused perspective but every once in a while, he nails everything and everyone to the wall.¬† Timothy Noah’s take, though, is from the perspective of one who just wandered in to the middle of a movie and has to continually ask, “what is going on?”
Anyway, what ho! More of Slate’s Oscar coverage! Yes, you read that right. Even outlets who think they’re above all that get themselves down and dirty to talk about the lowly topic of the Oscars.¬† Everyone wants to rub up against it. Sooner or later.
Meanwhile, Carpetbagger visited the Kodak today:
Is there anything more bereft that a red carpet packed with celebrities that has neither carpet nor human jewelry? (The Bagger drew his first reprimand for shooting this picture, which is sort of the official start of Oscar coverage every year.)
