‘Drink, Play, F@#k’ ditched for ‘Dumped’

Warner Bros. has picked up ‘Dumped,’ a comedy based on Andrew Gottlieb’s novel ‘Drink, Play, F@#k’ as a vehicle for Steve Carrell. The book is a spin on the self-realization memoir, Eat, Pray, Love — but of course when it comes to fucking in ads, the marketing mantra is Flinch, Ban, Shush, so the terrific title had to go. The premise is Forgetting Sarah Marshall meets Around the World in Eighty Lays:

A jilted husband sets off to explore the world and rediscover his passion. He goes on an epic bender in Ireland, explorers the glamour of Las Vegas and experiences hedonistic pleasure in Thailand… though not everything is what he expects. (Monsters and Critics)

Wish they hadn’t neutered the title, but what I’m really looking forward to is the sequel, “Nap, Mope, Wank.”

In other Vegas-Hollywood synergy news, Warners has already greenlit the sequel to The Hangover, two months before the first installment opens. Details after the cut.

In a multimillion-dollar commitment, Warner Bros. has set ‘The Hangover’ director Todd Phillips to write a sequel with Scot Armstrong.

In the comedy, groomsmen take the betrothed for a last fling in Las Vegas, then become so caught up in the revelry that they lose the groom.

While studios often wait to see box office results before committing to a sequel, ‘The Hangover’ has tested strongly, and a trailer brought down the house at ShoWest.

Now it all all makes sense. Somebody has grand plans for a deluxe DVD box set:

Smashed, Knackered, Played, Knocked Up, Dissed, and Dumped.

Variety proceeds to point out that this is the second sequel set in motion before the first film opens this year. The other one being Paramount’s Star Trek.
