Dark Stranger Press Conference Podcast

If you have any interest in this at all, this is the recording of the podcast of the Woody Allen film, You Will Meet a Stall, Dark Stranger screening here at Cannes. The film stars Josh Brolin, Naomi Watts, Frieda Pinto, Gemma Jones, Lucy Punch and Anthony Hopkins.

The press conference was marked mostly by Woody’s funny comments. He thinks on his feet just as he did decades ago, finding the joke and nailing it. The problem is that the recording is sort of bad. I was holding it near the speaker and it sounded fine but then I thought I would set it behind the monitor and keep it there. I thought it was the smartest way to do it and was so proud of myself. But things devolved when I listened back and it was too loud for the recording so it’s buzzing a tad. It’s worth listening to, though, because Woody Allen gives interviews so rarely.

One of the journalists asked him why he continues to make films about much older men and very young women. He sort of dodged the question a bit, saying he really just uses it as a gag. That may be true, but it’s become too repetitive and isn’t funny anymore so much as it’s creepy.

The best line, “My feelings about death remain the same: I am strongly against it.”

Other participants include Gemma Jones, Naomi Watts, Josh Brolin and Lucy Punch.

Have a listen.
