Some fuzzy chatter that sounds so good I hope repeating it can help amplify the rumor to a self-fulfilling prophecy.¬† The “exclusive” speculation comes from Deadline:
Add Daniel Craig to the conversation of who might star in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, the David Fincher-directed adaptation of the novel by Stieg Larsson that has become such a publishing phenomenon. Nothing’s set, but I hear they’re talking. Steve Zaillian-scripted pic is being prepped by Columbia Pictures and producer Scott Rudin. Speculation has so far focused on Brad Pitt. No offers have been made, I’m told by the studio, but it’s the hot project, particularly with two more installments by the late Larsson right behind this one.
Mike Fleming notes that Craig will have some free time opening up since MGM’s financial woes have suspended the Bond franchise for the foreseeable future.¬† Since much of the online casting attention for Dragon Tattoo has swirled around who should play Lisbeth Salander, it’s refreshing to see the role of Mikael Blomqvist being measured beyond the standard ‘Brad Pitt!’ plug-in.¬† My major issue with the Swedish adaptation was the fizzled chemistry between the lead actors. Daniel Craig’s presence would spark all sorts of combustible possibilities.
