Aaron Sorkin will make his directorial debut with the Andrew Young tell-all The Politician, which details the bizarre rise and fall of the Great White Hope, John Edwards whose career came to an abrupt end when his affair with Rielle Hunter was revealed.  Edwards had long since played the role of the faithful husband and father, with cancer-stricken Elizabeth Edwards at his side.
The bizarre story includes Edwards’ desperate attempt to hold on to his bid for the presidency by concocting a lie with Andrew Young claiming to have fathered the child. ¬†This was a catastrophe in the making as the child is the spitting image of Edwards.
In the meantime, Edwards gambled the future of the Democratic party, not to mention to future of America by continuing the illusion until it all came crashing down around him like a house of cards.
The trick here is whether or not Sorkin will also pull Andrew Young’s own participation into the mix, not just that he did what he was told, but his own obsession with, and love for Edwards. ¬†No one gets away unscathed in this tale – not Edwards, Hunter, the Youngs – not even poor Elizabeth.
Who might be cast as John Edwards, Rielle Hunter, Andrew Young and Elizabeth Edwards? ¬†I can’t wait to find out.
