Courtesy Spoiler Alert: A lot of people are saying this trailer reveals a key plot development. I don’t think Soderbergh is so clumsy. I’m honestly thinking the spoiler causing some to recoil is an event that probably occurs in the first 15 minutes of the film.
Remember what Hitchcock taught us about suspense vs shock: Knowing what’s coming cranks up the tension. ok, we see that some big stars are gonna die. Knowing that in advance, it’ll make every brief scene we spend with then all the more poignant, right?
Wow, this looks amazing! Finally a movie where a virus doesn’t end up turning into zombies.

This movie is based on the true event (SARS outbreak) in 2003. It was happened in Hong Kong first then spread over other asia countries even Canada. That’s why Steven Soderbergh chose Hong Kong as one of this film’s location.
SARS killed 299 Hong Kong people including 8 doctors and nurses.
The government sent all people of a building to a camp because many people of this building died due to this virus.
Everybody wore mask, the whole city was empty and nobody walked on the street.
This film brings Hong Kong people all those fear back , it was a deep pain of this city.

Does the doctor say she isn’t dead, then that she’s dead? Am I the only one hearing that? I keep rewinding it. CONFUSED.

But wasn’t Hitchcock the one who really wanted Janet Leigh’s death in Psycho to be kept secret for anyone who hadn’t seen it yet?
Sure, one of his main achievements was being the master of suspense, but he still worked with surprise and shock moments, absolutely.

To be fair, knowing you get to watch Gwyneth Paltrow die may actually draw in audiences. [2]

I know it looks like Paltrow gets killed off pretty early in the film, but the trailer suggests she still has a more than substantial role. It looks as if she’ll still have scenes even after her character dies, through flashbacks and “security camera footage” as they try to track her path and determine who she could have passed the disease to. In an ensemble of this size, I doubt her part is significantly smaller than the rest of the top-billed cast. I’m definitely intrigued.

It’s going to be like when Paris Hilton was killed off in House of Wax. I will watch it. I will watch the hell out of it.

Read the script. You’re right… it happens quick, within the first 15 minutes her character is dead.

Okay, this one just vaulted into my top 5 “wanna see” for the year but the September release date worries me. Given the cast and the genre I would’ve expected this to be a tentpole release and not relegated to what is typically the deadliest month of the year for film releases. I just hope the trailer isn’t better than the finished film (as I found to be true of “The Informant!”)…

Alice_R, it’s quite clearly alphabetical.

I love the fact that Marillon gets top billing.. it doesn’t make any sense with all the other big names.. but still.. that made my day 🙂

He hasn’t made a great movie since Ocean’s Eleven. Che could’ve been great but it turned out impersonal and meandering. This looks like a return to the talent he showed with Traffic.

WTF? They just spoiled the deaths of Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Winslet in the trailer? Well, that makes this movie only more interesting.
I can´t think of a movie with such a brilliant cast. I mean Winslet, Law, Paltrow, Damon, Cotillard, Fishburne and then Hawkes,Jennifer Ehle and Bryan FUCKING Cranston. Incredible.
And I just love it when they make Jude Law ugly. Road to Perdition, anybody?

to be frank, looks good but how many people have seen that little gem a couple of years ago, called “Carriers”?

Jesus Alonso — counting you and me? that’s two of us. Shame that Carriers didn’t get a decent theatrical release. I really like the style — a cross between The Road and Mad Max, 28 Days Later and a touch of Y tu mamá también (except sad lacking any bisexual experiments). Hard to market, obviously. `
Pandemic scenarios are the basis for some of the scariest movies I’ve ever seen. Nice to see one done with such prestigious talent involved.

Dave M, you’re terrible. LOL
Sometimes a cast seems rather too starry for one film…but enough of them are actors I respect, so I shan’t complain.
My only problem with the trailer is not that it reveals such an important plot point, but that that afterwards, it turns into a generic trailer for any old thriller. I’m expecting something a lot better from the end product, so I’m not worried though, and I understand that this is the way to pull in an audience.

“what if that scene insinuates Kate Winslet is becoming a zombie”
I hope this isn’t true! But if it is then I am certain Kate Winslet (Titanic, Revolutionary Road) will turn in the finest zombie performance since Billy Connolly in Fido.

@Rodrigo
Plenty of people would say Che was his most recent great film.
Soderbergh has been my favorite director since I was 13, so I can’t wait for this (regardless of potential Oscar prospects.)

I’m surprised Soderbergh’s name isn’t a selling point in the trailer.
Other than that, I am looking forward to this.

It’s a Talented Mr. Ripley reunion!
Seriously, this cast is killer and who doesn’t like it when an auteur takes on a well-explored sub-genre?

I hope Jude Law’s Glenn Beck type character dies a horrible death in this.
Kevin: Have you done a review of the script?

John Hawkes
Between this, Higher Ground and Martha Marcy May Marlene, he seems to be showing up in all the right places.

Looks fantastic, but I hope it’s not TOO great or it might steal away the “blockbuster spot” from Harry Potter 🙁

To me, it’s not so much the major death revealed as that seems a tad obvious that it’ll happen within the first act. It’s the Winslet part towards the end where she’s in the hotel room that insinuates that she’s infected that’s a little off-putting.
All that said, I still think it looks pretty good and, like others have said, a very good cast all around.

You’re essentially right. What people are calling a spoiler happens extremely early in the movie. In fact reading the screenplay (the first quarter, at least), I was surprised such a big-name actress signed on for a role with so little screen time.

Still has capacity to shock us, as far back as Janet Leigh in Psycho all the way to Guy Pearce in The Hurt Locker.
(Jeff, at the risk of spilling the beans, what if that scene insinuates Kate Winslet is becoming a zombie?)

I just hope, for the sake of Soderbergh’s desire of retirement, that this film does well with the public and the critics. It’s been too long since his last great film (I’d say “Ocean’s Twelve”, but I understand if people say “Traffic”). With the Brett Ratners and Michael Bays of life not quitting filmmaking any time soon, it’s just too soon for Hollywood to lose a guy like that.
The trailer does point to a better version of “Blindness”, but not really to a star-studded version of “28 Days Latter”.

I think this looks like a solid smarter popcorn flick, but I’m actually quite upset that I watched the trailer. Feels like entirely too much is given away there…

Excited to see the brilliant, Oscar-winning Kate Winslet (Flushed Away, Sense & Sensibility) return to the screen! It has been far too long.
Based on this trailer, she’s going to be GREAT!
