You know the rules. Three possible but unlikely scenarios that might play out tomorrow.
It has to be something wild. Something wicked. Something utterly incomprehensible. Something that could never, would never, won’t ever happen. But what if it does. What if it does!
Okay, here are mine. I’m not giving up on Harry Potter yet.
1. Harry Potter for Best Picture
2. Asa Butterfield for Best Actor
3. Sacha Baron Cohen, Best Supporting Actor
Okay so we know these are not likely to happen, especially with the HFPA. But you know what they say, no guts…no glory. Have at it.
@OCO300 you are absolutely right, and excuse me from saying this but the Academy are big fools for not noticing that!!!
Harry Pottter’s last film was the most successful and arguably the best reviewed film of the 2011 and everyone knows that’s TRUE, IT’S DAMN TRUE!!!
And the Academy/Golden GLobes/and alot of those critic society are disrespected jerks for snubbing HP: DH 2 out of the Best Picture race for no good reason, and I pray to god this doesn’t happen to the Hunger Games/The Avengers/The Dark Knight Rises just like the Academy did to the Dark Knight.
@Ryan Adams, thanks man I just wish the Academy, BFCA and the state or city film would see this.

When you look at that info you and everybody knows that Harry Pootter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 did better than every movie on that list I made.
OCO 300, Thanks for taking the time to collect all that information. It’s a handy reference.
Excellent research and you make a good argument.
I wish life would be as fair and clear and undeniable as the math.
[fixed ‘nod’ for you]
after actually watching the noms, what a HUGE mistake did the spanish academy not to submit Almodovar’s.
HUGE.
SPC would probably have campaigned it more seriously for Directing, Writting and Acting. Instead of this, they’re just yearning for an Original Score nom. Sigh.
And if the ratings-desperate HFPA skipped Potter… I’m guessing they’ll just have BAFTA love and that’s it.
Harry Potter for Best Motion Picture – Drama
The Woman in the Septic Tank (Philippines) for Best Foreign Language Film
No screenplay nom for Hugo. That sucks.

Best Supporting Actor: John Hawkes – Martha Marcy May Marlene
Hugo has lost a lot of steam. But still hoping for at least 4 noms. Links anyone?
The Artist will probably top the noms with 6. The 6th could be the built-in score. Silent films didn’t have built-in scores of course, music was played live in theaters. This was called Photoplay music, music written specifically as accompaniment for a particular film and given to pianists and other musicians working for the theaters.
BTW, does anyone know if there’s to be a live stream online?
Steve McQueen, 4 Golden Globe noms. Didn’t win any except for 2 Henriettas.
Gary Oldman, 0 Golden Globes noms. 1st one coming up?
I think Jessica is a lock!
Meryl Streep, 25 Golden Globe nominations (23 for film, 2 for TV), and out of those came 7 Wins (6 for film, 1 for TV). 26th nom coming up.
Jessica Chastain will surely split votes among her many movies. She won’t get a nomination unless someone does some kind of intervention.
Who’s supposed to be the lead in Margin Call?
An hour and 15 minutes to go. Any links, anyone?

My actual personal oddball prediction is Miranda July for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Musical or Comedy) for The Future
BP – Crazy Stupid Love
BP – EL&EC
BSA – Gosling (C,S,L)
BD – Spielberg
This is a group that is wary of public perception, so it could be 20 nominations to HP, even the TV categories. They do like to impress…
1) Jessica Chastain gets TWO nominations. Howcome people haven’t even CONSIDERED this? You can appear as many times as you want in a Globe category…
2) Jennifer Aniston gets nominated, AND…
3) So does Angelina (for Best Director)
Joseph Gordon-Levit (best actor, comedy)
Ryan Gosling (best actor, comedy)
Ezra Miller (best supporting actor)
Lots of love for J. Edgar
I don’t think a nomination for Kristen Wiig is something unlikely. In fact, I don’t see it not happening. Ever since Bridesmaids came out I’ve thought she was a lock for a nomination.

So I’ll do Best Actress in a Comedy/Musical Gabourey Sidibe, Tower Hesit
Emma Watson Supporting Actress, Harry Potter
Ralph Fiennes Supporting Actor, Harry Potter
Owen Wilson Lead Actor Comedy, Midnight In Paris
Not a NGNG, but Gary Oldman will definitely be nominated for Best Actor (Drama). Since Dujardin will be moving to the other category (Musical/Comedy), it leaves two slots open in the Drama category (assuming that the HFPA do indeed end up nominating Clooney, Pitt, and DiCaprio). And with two slots open, Oldman should definitely make it. Does that bring him back into contention? No, but it definitely keeps him on life-support. And with an almost-assured BAFTA nomination, he’s not yet out of the race, despite SAG and BFCA not voting for him.
Despite all the star-fucking that the HFPA indulge in, I have to say that they (invariably) get their Drama Best Pic nominees bang on, save for a nominee here and there. So, tomorrow morning, we could be seeing about 5-6 films (4 Drama Best Pic nominees + The Artist, or 5 Drama Best Pic nominees + The Artist), cementing their Oscar Best Pic spots (unofficially).
I predict that Steven Spielberg will receive best director nominations for BOTH War Horse and Tintin!
Best Actor, Drama- Michael Shannon for Take Shelter
Best Supporting Actor- John Hawkes for Martha Marcy May Marlene
Best Picture, Drama- Martha Marcy May Marlene

Sasha, do you think Aniston could’ve had a shot at a nomination? She was one of the best parts of a well reviewed movie, and the audience loved hearing her play completely against her rom-com image.
Bradley Cooper (The Hangover 2) for Best Actor – Comedy
Emma Stone (The Help) for Best Actress – Drama
It Will Rain by Bruno Mars (Twilight) for Best Original Song
Contagion – Drama

Best Picture Drama–A Dangerous Method
Best Actress Drama–Keira Knightley, A Dangerous Method
Best Actor Musical/Comedy–Robert Downey, Jr., Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows
I think the mystery of HP being in the running for Best Pic will finally be solved when the Producers’ Guild of America (PGA) announces its nominees on Jan 3. So far, the signs have not been good at all.
Best Pic (Drama): J. Edgar

Shame – best picture – drama.
daveylow,
Sideways + Comedy, then 50/50 is def comedy.
I really like the Keira Knightly pick, that movie needs some attention.
Colin Ferrell was terrible in Fright Night, but David Tennant was really good, not NGNG good, but pretty good.
Steve Carrel – Best Actor ( Crazy Stupid Love)
Super 8 – Best Picture
Anne Hathaway – Best Actress (One Day)
Shame — Best Drama

Best Actress (Drama) – Keira Knightly (A DANGEROUS METHOD)
Best Actress (Musical or Comedy) – Anne Hathaway (ONE DAY)
Best Supporting Actor – Colin Farrell (HORRIBLE BOSSES)
@JJ: After the public roasting that the HFPA received from Ricky Gervais for nominating ‘The Tourist’, I hope they will be more conscious of not making any more WTF! picks. Then again, this year’s award season has been ALL ABOUT making WTF! picks!!
Colin Farrell: Best Actor (for Comedy) for Fright Night or for best S. Actor for Horrible Bosses
also, I think The Muppets have a solid shot for Best Picture comedy. Solid enough that I don’t think it qualifies as NGNG
Best Pic Drama: Drive
Best Supporting Actor: Andy Serkis
Best Comedy/Musical: Friends with Benefits
Okie doke.
1) Warrior for Best Picture
2) Tom Hardy for Best Actor, Warrior
3) Tom Hardy for Best Supporting Actor, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

Ryan Gosling – best actor (drama) “Drive”
Thomas Horn – Best Actor

Do the Weinstein’s still have a $pecial relation$hip with the HFPA? Does Sony?
If so, I expect weird appearances by Madonna’s movie, W.E. (Maybe actress or movie!), a sweep by The Artist and perhaps even a comedy nod for “I Don’t Know How She Does It” star Sarah Jessica Parker!
Also, Sony will probably get their pet Jonah Hill into the race. And land weird nods for ANONYMOUS (Redgrave? Ifans? Picture?) or maybe even Jack and Jill for comedy! LOL – hey, they got The Tourist in there, one of the WORST MOVIES ever made.
to be honest, the globes should stop giving awards. I find them boring right now.
Lead actress drama: anne hathaway (one day)
Best Picture Drama – Drive
Best Supporting Actor – Ryan Gosling (Crazy Stupid Love)
Best Supporting Actress – Elle Fanning
Let me see…
Lead Actress (Drama) – Michelle Yeoh for ‘The Lady’ (really NGNG!!)
Supporting Actor – Alan Rickman for ‘Harry Potter’ (Sasha, since you went it with HP for Best Pic, I thought I would go would go with this. Would really throw open the competition in case it happens! *cough*Brit voting bloc*cough*)
Supporting Actress – Evan Rachel Wood for The Ides of March (TIoM comprises of two pretty boys in Clooney AND Gosling, and HFPA loves pretty boys. So, I see TIoM making their presence felt at the Globes)
No such thing as NGNG for Lead Actor (Drama). There are too many contenders now. And SAG added one more contender to the already-muddled Best Actor category.
Lead Actor – Thomas Horn (ELIC)
Supporting Actress – Julianne Moore (Crazy Stupid Love)
Supporting Actor – Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids)
Thomas Horn, best actor (el&ic)
Alan rickman, best supporting actor (deathly Hallows)
Jessica chastain, best supporting actress (tree of life)
Vinny is onto something, if HFPA continues their starfucking-ways this year – and why wouldn’t they ? – a bd-nomination for the supposedly good/great ‘In the Land of Blood and Honey’ could easily happen considering they gave her a lead actress nomination for the awful ‘The Tourist’…but even if not bd, it will probably get into the best foreign language film category.
BEST LEAD ACTRESS (DRAMA) – Emma Stone (The Help)
BEST LEAD ACTOR (DRAMA) – Thomas Horn (Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close)
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS – Cate Blanchett (Hanna)
Cameron Diaz – Best Actress Comedy/Musical for Bad Teacher
