Just tellin’ the truth, bro. Born and raised in Nashville, TN and went to college at Ole Miss. Nothing has really changed there. Sorry, Matt. Surprised Baptist groups and other such assholes didn’t have the movie banned. Those people are still living in 1955. Truth hurts. You could be a member of Mensa for all I care, but as a member of the SEFCA, you have to know that what I’m saying is true.
Don’t be an absolute imbecile, Brogan.

Are you people kidding? Of course, Viola Davis wouldn’t win Best Actress from these people. Its the SOUTHEASTERN Critics Awards. There was no way she would win this. They’re still surprised black people are allowed in films.
Yeah Descendants, Marty!
@Zooey
I know.
It just at the moment Williams is winning many awards from several city circle award groups and I’m not surprised she’s a critics darling.
That’s why it’s nice to see some other names (not only Meryl) pop up somewhere.
This make this year’s best actress race really interesting and exciting. 8)
I’d love to see Drive make the cut and if it were 10 still I’d say it would have a good shot, but I think (possibly) that a lot of the ballots with Drive #1 will have Tree of Life #2 and vice versa so the odds of both those films making it are very very slim and the voting process just makes everything weird now. That may be oversimplifying the tastes of hundreds of academy members. A caveat for Drive, Albert Brooks winning the golden globe will do nothing but help drive but I doubt it will be in time to influence oscar noms. Also Tree of Life has Malick’s clout behind it, plus it’s a lock to win Cinematography and has a better than good chance at noms in visual effects, editing, art direction and even Director. Although I give Refn the best chance to get a directing nom without a BP nom.
Drive has made so many top 10 lists. It better make the cut at the Oscars.
Good for the Southeastern Critics for honoring Meryl Streep and for their discerning eye on most of their other choices as well. A minor quibble on The Artist’s almost winning the Screenplay award ahead of, say, Take Shelter or Margin Call.
@ Sonja,
it’s nice yes. But it’s not as if she’s been snubbed so far. Some of the minor critics’ groups ignored her (but she won most of them two years ago). And it’s crucial that she won the BIG one – the New York Film Critics Circle. Having won minor critics’ groups is essential as well. It’s a grand performance – really a tour-de-force.
Nice to see Meryl still getting some critic love.^^
Florida Film Critics Circle awards The Descendants, Scorsese, Fassbender, Williams, Brooks and Woodley. http://bit.ly/vVEqYX
I kind of believe now that Janet McTeer will represent Albert Nobbs at the Oscars if it’s represented at all.
Steve, I’m guessing they thought of The Descendants as more of a writing and acting accomplishment. Runner up Ensemble and Adapted Screeplay winner.
“erining” (WTF?) = writing
The Descendants is the winner right?
I assume these are in order of preference, Ryan? Seems odd Payne didn’t get a mention for directing; you’d think that Hugo or The Artist would have been named BP (unless it was the weight of the
eriningwriting and acting wins)steve50 — Looks like a #1 – #10 list, yes.
First line of the press release says: “The Southeastern Film Critics Association (SEFCA) has named ‘The Descendants’ the Best Film of 2010.”
MARTY!!!!
