Thanks for one’s marvelous posting! I truly enjoyed reeading it, youu might be a great author.
I will bbe sure to bookmark your blog and will often
come back at some point. I want to encourage continue your great job, have
a nice afternoon!
I think Harry Potter will win best makeup because it’s the only real chance to honor the Potter movies with an Oscar. Visual Effects will probably go to Apes and Art Direction will go to Hugo or The Artist. The other noms will probably be The Iron Lady and Albert Nobbs or The Artist.
Hugo wont’t make a nom for best song because i guess there will be only 3 nominees this year.
Question: Do someone else think that a nom for The Artist in a sound category is possible?? Call me crazy but I seriously think yes.
Here is our take on the race for best make up http://filmicas.com/2012/01/10/la-carrera-maquillaje/
@JP + James. Don’t think song is anywhere likely for Hugo. As lovely as Shore’s score is, the song is meandering, unfocused and forgettable. Shore can be real hit or miss when it comes to songwriting. Love Into the West and Gollum’s Song, but the Hugo Song completely misses the mark in my opinion.
@ James It’s not happening! What matters more than anything for Hugo now is having more nominations than The Artist. I personally don’t see Kingsley in, don’t see it getting the 2 sound nominations and original song is a box of surprise, the most difficult of all categories to predict.
Gainsbourg has terrific makeup. I’m predicting it for at least the nom, maybe the win.
@James
Okay, calm down, it’s not that amazing…
The truth is that no one can predict this crazy category, even though we have a shortlist to go by. I’ve never even heard of “Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life”. Those crazy makeup artists – they do their own thing.
Hugo can wind up with a record-tying 14 nominations. Picture, director, Ben Kingsley, writing plus ALL the technical/artistic crafts categories.
No J. Edgar? Really?
Also, The Artist picked up the Vancouver Film Critics Awards for Best Pic and Best Screenplay tonight! (as did Malick/Fassbender/Olsen/Plummer/Chastain, and Cafe de Flore/Cronenberg/Williams/Storemare)
I think if J. Edgar’s makeup is already out, Armie Hammer is out too. (Not that many people were predicting him.)
@Matt
What i think is going to happen:
Noms:
Art Direction
Visual Effects
Sound Mixing OR Sound Editing (NOT BOTH)
Make-Up Or Original Score(Not Both)
I wish they would all mak it, but i’m predicting 4 noms for harry, wish there wer 10 but……………….
Thank you academy for not including that hideous make-up from J. Edgar.
-Love, the world
For me,
“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2″
“Hugo”
“The Iron Lady”
Thanks to the widely criticism, J. Edgar is deservingly out!
I’ll say it will end up Albert Nobbs, Iron Lady and Harry Potter. Harry Potter could very well win in this category because of the scale of the make-up work. The 40 or so Goblins, battle worn wizards, epilogue aging, Voldemort, and Aberforth.
I think The Iron Lady will win regardless of whether Meryl wins (though I still think she’s the frontrunner anyway, especially now that The Help was not included in the DGA lineup).
If TIL wins Make Up, then Meryl will win Lead Actress.
Just like with La Vie en Rose and Cotillard
Maybe it’s time to fix the contender tracker? J. Edgar is there – not once, but twice.
Also, Tintin and Le Havre are written incorrectly. I’m nitpicking (is that a word?)
I stand corrected; lots of makeup in Albert Nobbs: http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi2930090265/
But I wouldn’t call it showy, but subtle.
Iron Lady / Harry Potter / Anonymous or Albert Nobbs (how much of Glenn Close was makeup and how much was LACK of makeup?)
everybody saw how bad the J. Edgar Make Up was.. why not Eastwood!?
Jennifer Lawrence will accompany Tom Sherak in Oscar Nominee Presentations:

Jennifer Lawrence will accompany Tom Sherak in Oscar Nominee Presentations:
Hunger Games prequel.
The Iron Lady hasn’t really opened wide yet, but it should make decent business. Same with The Artist which I think will make 100 million worldwide quite easily.
The case of Michel Hazanavicius (=correct spelling, people; not VICIOUS) is interesting. If he wins Original Screenplay, he probably loses Director – and vice versa. My money is on Director (for him to win).
Harry Potter needs to win this instead of The Artist because that movie will probably win everything else, and Harry Potter’s the better film so for once give it to the better film Academy.
Harry Potter / Anonymous / Hugo
Those are my picks for the final three . . . with Potter for the win.
“Surprised to see Gainsbourg listed. That came out in France two years ago – how is it eligible?”
It’s that one? Damn, I saw it almost two years ago, too.
re: Arthur
I thought HP 7.2’s cinematography was serviceable, but I thought it was a lot more showy and/or beautiful in Part 1, and of course in Delbonnel’s gorgeously shot Half Blood Prince.
The one tech category I overlooked in HP that I really noticed during 7.2 was the high quality use of sound and the heavy contrast of mixing and effects throughout. It would be nice if they got a nod or two, I believe Narnia was able to pick up one.
I also think Desplat an outside shot at picking up a nom for score, especially since ELAEC is falling faster than, well, you know.
The Iron Lady should win this –best make-up work this year.
Surprised to see Gainsbourg listed. That came out in France two years ago – how is it eligible? I know it came out in the US only this Summer…
I wonder if it will get a surprise nomination like Il Divo.
@Matt I think so too, We Know Art Direction & VFX are Locks(nominations of course)
But, original Score Sound Mixing & Edtiting, Make-up, Could Cinematography make the cut???
I do think harry has a chance Here… for a nom… although i think it has zero shots in this category Of course, uNLESS some votes get miss counted
I think Iron Lady, Harry Potter and Hugo will be the noms.
I really don’t know what to expect with HP 7.2 overall. I can see it receiving as little as 2 to as many as 5 if the sound categories are still open.
Was expecting Week with Marilyn to be in this shortlist. But see The Artist and Hugo go go go…
@Gregoire why is Iron Lady and The Artist is doing sort of bad in the box office?
The Iron Lady will win. It could be its only trophy, but I think that film will get two 😉
Not surprised about J. Edgar, actually. Leo was done quite well, but Armie was absolutely awful – and his old acting was the worst part of the film (talk about acting where make up didn’t help an actor but did the opposite).
Harry POtter
Albert Nobbs and Iron Lady is my bet here….enough with The Artist thing it doesn’t deserve an OScar for best make up..with no disrespect to others..just an opinion..^_^
J Edgar’s makeup was a disaster. So glad it was booted.
Iron Lady and Harry Potter are probably locks.
Albert Nobbs has showy makeup, but did anybody see it?
I hope The Artist is left off. I understand the skill of makeup for black-and-white film, but come on now. It’s mostly glamour and lipstick.
I’m shocked W.E. didn’t make the shortlist. It’s some of the most impressive usage of makeup in the last few years… This is disappointing to say the least..
Is there a good reason why The Artist is here/ I havent watched the film yet. It looks like The Artist is gonna have more nominations than it deserves
So glad J. Edgar didn’t make that shortlist – I thought the academy would fall for it, but really, it’s really, really bad!
No J. Edgar.
