I absolutely love how their acting award is gender-neutral.
Yes, since Margaret Thatcher was such a champion of LGBT rights! LMFAO that’s the funniest thing I’ve seen all day.
Colin Firth was nominated for TKS last year, so…. *shrug*
I know this probably isn’t intentional, but I LOVE how the best performance field is made up almost entirely of LGBT characters (and Fassbender who has a homosexual encounter in his film) and Margaret Thatcher. It’s brilliant.
Are these actual awards, or where they cobbled together by seven or eight gay men over cocktails at G Lounge last night?
Interestingly enough, the best film this year that would seemingly fall within the parameters of this group’s sphere is the French TOMBOY.
But WEEKEND is quite good as well, in fact one of the best gay-themed films ever.
This should’ve been the one place Kevin Smith’s fantastic Red State should’ve received notice.
And surely Immortals, Contagion or Melancholia are far more campy than Thor or even The Muppets.
That’s really good news for Happy Endings. I love that show! I’m glad they got nominated, seeing how underrated it is. That aside, I liked their choices overall. And Madeleine Stowe, yay!
I like some of the quirky categories, especially the Unsung ones. While only 3 people in the US truly care about the winners in those categories, they are still fun. And anything to bring attention to some films and TV shows that need attention is a good thing.
Fassbender and Hardy were around before this year (especially Fassbender) but they were only recognized by the slimmest number of people. Hardy is still not recongnized among people who have seen and liked Inception. (But then I deal with dunderheads most of my life, when referring to Jessica Lange on American Horror Story, most of the younger people are like “which one is Jessica Lange?”)
… and I can’t discuss it more without going into some spoilers.
I find it stupid – frankly stupid – to nominate The Skin I live in for Best Picture and not in some other cathegories, if you’ve seen the film, you’ll have to agree.
Thatcher – gay? Nah. Unfulfilled TG, maybe. I’m sure she and Dame Edna were the same person as they were never seen in the same room together. So drag queen would qualify.
Seriously, I like the unisex acting categories. Funny this group is just starting to notice “rising stars” Fassbender and Hardy, though.
Yeah Maggie was a real voice of support for the LGBT movement, being gay and that herself.
Actually, Streep’s character is the only one of those nominees that isn’t depicted as at least interested in the same sex.
Though in Shame Fassbender’s character doing sexual things with a man has a lot more to do with his sex addiction than it does his sexual preference
haha I feel stupid.. the first category I read was best performance and I was quite shocked assuming Michael Fassbender played a bisexual ( i haven’t seen Shame, either the iron lady) so I got more excited now about watching Shame and feeling odd because I didn’t knew Thatcher was lesbian.. but then I read the best film category and realized this awards aren’t like the GLAAD awards… anyway loved the Mcteer mention over Close
Jessica Lange …. YES PLEASE
Hahaha, they nominated Mcteer over Close!
Fassbender! Mara! Tree of Life!
I find it ironic that none of the best performances come from the best films.
