As Sasha takes off to Telluride and we wait for official announcement of the festival’s full slate, The Iceman trailer arrives to help us chill.
“The Iceman” is the electrifying true story of Richard Kuklinski (Shannon), a notorious mob contract killer and loving family man. He earned his nickname by freezing the bodies of his victims, disguising the time of death, and throwing police off-track. He was a man who used his tendencies toward violence and detachment from consequence to create an idyllic family life. His family and neighbors believed he was an average businessman, having no idea about his deadly alternate life. Kuklinski killed over one hundred people during his life. He never felt remorse for anything he had done, except hurting his family.
Written and directed by Ariel Vromen. Starring Chris Evans, Michael Shannon, Ray Liotta, Winona Ryder and James Franco.
Did Ray Liotta have a case of deja vu? Here, Shannon’s character is telling him one-on-one:”I’m good at what I do.” In Blow, Ray played Dad to Johnny Depp’s character, who said to Liotta one-one-one: “I’m good at what I do, Dad.”
The film looks good, Shannon in particular looks good. But even from this trailer I’d be wondering why his family didnt realise he was a contract killer. He acts like one all the time.
The Toronto Film Critics in 2011 deservedly gave Michael Shannon their Best Actor honor for “Take Shelter”.
I was one of many who were campaigning for an Oscar nomination for him last year.
This new film looks very promising. Hopefully, Shannon will get that 2nd Oscar nomination come February.
Liotta was shortchanged before GoodFellas for Something Wild. Didn’t he get a GG nom for that?
Glad to see Winona Ryder back!
With this and Killing Them Softly, is this the year of Ray Liotta? Can he get finally get an Oscar nomination, after being short-changed for Goodfellas all those years ago?
Guess I’ll eat my original comment – just read a review from Venice FF and the word is good (and of course, Shannon is outstanding, as expected)
If I had a dollar for every time Michael Shannon made that face…
positive review here

Michael Shannon could be play someone in a coma, blind, deaf, mute, and locked inside a iceberg, that will be genius acting, and that I will see in the fronts seats of the movie theater.
Holy fuck, looks kewl!
Michael Shannon, incredible
hairy Chris Evans umf!!!!
Awesome cast overall.
Dear god, this looks fantastic.
Cometh.
This looks awesome! Michael Shannon seems to be a perfect hitman, he would make a great Bond-villain!
‘God Bless America’ for best original screenplay!!!
While the part looks tailor-made for Shannon, I’m a little skeptical of the director.
