Lucky visitors to New York’s Museum of Modern Art this week may chance upon a performance art installation featuring Tilda Swinton napping in a glass box.
[quote_simple]The Maybe,” as it is called, will be taking place on random days throughout the rest of the month. Even museum staff doesn’t know when the Moonrise Kingdom actress will show up, a source told Gothamist. When she does appear, she’ll spend the whole day snoozing in her glass container, which is equipped with just a mattress, linens, and a jug of water[/quote_simple]
Swinton, who hails from Scotland, conceived the installation nearly two decades ago and performed it for the first time in 1995 at London’s Serpentine Gallery. She did a second showing in Rome a year later.
MoMA, for its part, has said very little about the piece, choosing instead to let the art speak for itself: “An integral part of The Maybe’s incarnation at MoMA in 2013 is that there is no published schedule for its appearance, no artist’s statement released, no museum statement beyond this brief context, no public profile or image issued,” a brief explanation read. “Those who find it chance upon it for themselves, live and in real — shared — time: now we see it, now we don’t.” (US Weekly)
Hey this is kind of of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding experience so I wanted to get guidance from someone with experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Tilda is a fascinating woman. I would have to have a muscle relaxant, ambien, and a lavendar scented eye cover in order to do this.
I pulled something like this off yesterday (slept in while wearing a red t-shirt).
Brilliant; kind of says it all.
But are we sure it’s not David Bowie?
‘“Those who find it chance upon it for themselves, live and in real — shared — time: now we see it, now we don’t.”’
I have never seen this kind of art form mano a mano or in person. That said, I am quite familiar with the school of thought and enjoyed it at times on the internet. And I think it’s interesting in general, to say the least.
In this case, I like the fact that there’s reportedly been no publicity about it at all (?) so that visitors could, I quote, “chance upon it live and in real time,” quote ends. Everyone, men/women, rich or not so rich, and all, who happens to visit the venue, got to experience it virtually without prejudice – they just needed to be there at the right time.
In my opinion, I also think it’s “*cool*” of her (Swinton) to have done this.
One of the most underrated actresses today. We Need to Talk About Kevin, need I say more!
On second look it’s not Tilda Swinton who is the art piece. It’s the people crowding around her, loving the ability to look through a clear glass covering of a celebrity even while she’s sleeping in her bed. We have feelings of entitlement towards celebrities. We demand they live in clear glass dwellings so we can see every second of their private lives. US magazine and TMZ feed upon this need.
This is like totally not creepy with those people standing over her watching her sleep right? Of course not! screams Edward Cullen. 😀
Sad. This is so sad. Somebody needs attention, I guess. This days anybody can come up with this stupid stunts and as long as they are “artists” or semi famous they can call them art! And as always, there’s a market for it.
Reminds me of religion!
Although no-one’s gonna wage war in the name of Tilda Swinton.
I’d worship Tilda Swinton over Jesus Christ any day.
The art is not in the installation, it’s in your mind. It’s not about what it is, but what it could be. What you interpret it to mean, how it makes you think, how it makes you feel.
It’s not for attention, it’s for art.
I love modern art museums. I feel like they’re less intimidating because I think I could do the art.
Is she gonna record her version of “Give Peace A Chance” while she’s there?
@Ryan speaking of fishtank I watch the movie fishtank last night first time I’ve seen since I saw it in theatres what ever happen to to Katie Jarvis? I thought she deserved an Oscar nom for her performance but haven’t heard from her since? what happen to her?
rather it were…Paul Rudd…
@Christophe
Those were just the first things that popped up in my mind when looking at the pictures. Just imagening what people might think about it.
@JackTraven
I’ve spent the whole week-end “just lying there and doing absolutely nothing” – except getting laid every few hours – how bad should I feel?
maybe she’s just working by night and really needs to sleep during the day, bc I can’t understand how she manages it with so much light and people around, or maybe it’s just a commentary abt how most people spend their time running around, to and fro, especially in nyc, priding themselves on their “active” lifestyles, yet cannot find meaning and peace. A good moment spent in silence and stillness can indeed teach us a lot abt ourselves and our true place in the world…
Either one could say: Wow, that looks strange, interesting. What may she be doing it for? What may she think?
Or: Well, that’s also a way spending one’s day – just lying there and doing absolutely nothing. While others around the globe are starving.
What may be my commentary on it? Well, …
LOVE this.
