See Steve Erickson’s article in Los Angeles magazine. He’s their critic. He’s written about Gatsby the book and seems to have seen the film. Also seems to have liked it a lot.
Has anyone seen this movie? I can’t tell if it is good or bad. Mysterious.
They are following a rollout gameplan identical to the one used for the 1974 turkey – a couple of months of relentless media blitz (primarily magazines then) with lots of pretty pics of the leads, the clothes and sets, capped by a bombastic premier. It was immediately followed by plop (FLUSH)
The flowers are orchids, and the movie smells like stinkweed. I have very little faith in Luhrmann and simply HATE the ads with the overdone contemporary music. (Haven’t we been there with him before?) Doesn’t get me excited at all.
Looks more like Michel Serrault from La cage aux folles or maybe Nathan Lane from the Birdcage to me, LOL… I think I will be laughing myself silly watching this one…
Ugh, Toby McGuire is one of the most boring and lifeless actors IMO, I really hope he doesn’t drag this movie down.
