In tribute to another milestone of Hollywood’s last Golden Age, let’s hope Lovelace restores the term ‘deep throat’ to its original pre-Watergate integrity.
Footnote: Deep Throat was only one of the four X-rated films that made it into the top 11 box-office hits of 1972. See how the others ranked after the cut.
1- $135 M – The Godfather
2- $93 M – The Poseidon Adventure
3- $66 M – What’s Up, Doc?
4- $50 M – Behind the Green Door
5- $48 M – Jeremiah Johnson
6- $46 M – Deliverance
7- $45 M – Deep Throat
8- $43 M – Cabaret
9- $36 M – The Getaway
10- $36 M – Last Tango in Paris
11- $25 M – Fritz the Cat
*(Last Tango in Paris earned another $60 M internationally, bringing its total to $93M).
Saw this at the SFF – acting and filmmaking is fantastic, but the story is terrible which is such a shame.
the lindsay lohan version was called “inferno” now with malin akerman? maybe. never to be filmed?
the only trouble this movie had was sjp replacing demi moore as gloria steinham. didn’t matter cause that was cut.
Producers of this movie got super lucky that Linsey Lohan stole something or got high when she got cast. It would have been a real disaster.
From what I see and what I’ve heard there may just be a chance for nominations:
Best actress – Amanda seygfried
Best s actress – Sharon Stone
I certainly hope so
This can play well for Independent Spirit Awards and some critics boards. For sure, looks promising, and who knows maybe this is a stronger contender that we all expect.
Is this the official poster?
The poster still has Sarah Jessica Parker name on it. I thought her scenes are cut from the movie?
I think this looks like one to watch for sure….My mind is baffled though, that these movies made so much money at the time of their release! Behind the Green Door made $50 mil in 1972??? WOW….just, WOW.
Yeah. Pre-home video plus it was considered “the thing to do”. If you didn’t see at least one porn movie in the theatre, you weren’t cool.
Rep. theatres often set aside one night for just porn so you didn’t have to brave the god-knows-what on the seats and floors of the regular porn houses.
I think I saw Edvard Munch, The Damned, Summer of ’42 and Deep Throat from precisely the same seat. Take that, Cineplex.
Am I the only one who is super anxious to see this now?! Paul Rudd in a dramatic role? The possible return of Sharon Stone? This trailer made my day!
Sorry Joey, I think that is Peter Sarsgaard?
