Sasha Stone has been around the Oscar scene since 1999. Almost everything on this website is her fault.

I really hated the book, but the trailer looks promising. I love Shailene Woodley.
“yes, that means it’s about a girl.”
maybe they should have that as a warning before the trailer. 😉
as usual sasha,i thought your words were pretty funny. 🙂
What really surprised me about the book is its sense of humor. I laughed out loud at parts while I was reading. I hope that it translates well in the film.
I haven’t read the book but I read great things about it, and Shailene Woodley has been quietly building quite the resume (The Descendants, The Spectacular Now) and after an ABC Family show no less, so I see a great deal of potential here.
This role looks baity. Endearing, heartbreaking, witty. Three things the Academy LOVES in a Best Actress contender and there is a good chance that after Divergent becomes the big hit tracking suggests, Shailene Woodley will be suddenly able to open The Fault in Our Stars which can also rely on built-in audience (fans of the hit source material) so if it also gets great reviews, Woodley could be in a similar position Jennifer Lawrence was in 2012.
What made the book work was that it really did a fine balance on the true/sappy border. There are some really nice moments in the book that are highlighted briefly here (like the trip to Amsterdam) that are far more complex that can be summarized in a trailer.
On a side note, I think Laura Dern playing the mother could be a sleeper BSA pick.
Interesting enough. Didn’t read this book so I have no expectations. We’ll see I guess.
I really disliked the book but I liked 500 days and the Spectacular now so I’m willing to give this movie the benefit of the doubt.
Akin to some readers here, I also got to see The Descendants (B+ or so). Some beautiful moments and pretty shots in there – to keep it brief.
That said, to me the film’s goodness is mainly due to the great effort by the director, Alexander Payne, in addition to its writing. So, speaking for myself, I still need to see more from Ms. Woodley before putting it confidently enough as to whether or not she’s a real M, as an actor, rather than only another celeb.
Re this fi . . . flick, I know usually you can’t judge a book by its cover. But it looks like another cheesy piece for now. For kicks, to put it in a lame way: boy meets girl, they both fall in love, only to say goodbye, sayonara baby we’re not meant to be and all that jazz . . . . (And pleaaase, don’t tell me she dies in the end . . . .)
Either way, I’ll be waiting for, let’s say, EW’s OG’s review. (If not his, then I’ll probably just check it here and there to test the water and the instinctive feels of it to see if I should wait for the DVD.)
Pardon my quasi-cynicism. I come from a culture where it’s commonplace enough to witness mainstream stories/films like this, or what looks to be that way, in our own popular civilization [culture]. So, I’ll have my fingers crossed for now.
Thanks for the tip, Ryan. I’ll just have to use the good old “”‘s for the time being.
Can’t do code no more? :/
transitioning into a slick new layout Bryce. maybe full-functionality isn’t activated yet.
I went to IMDB to see who the male lead was only to learn that he’s an old friend of mine. Nice kid. Glad to see he’s doing so well. Hopefully he’s good in the film!
There’s something really special about his voice! Their chemistry is readily apparent. Weird: He’ll be Shailene’s brother in DIVERGENT. By the way, anyone know what network that premiers on?
She is building a nice body of work!! I was blown away by her in “The Descendants” but loved her even more in “The Spectacular Now.”

I just saw The Spectacular Now over the weekend. I knew Woodley was the real deal after The Descendants, but The Spectacular Now sealed it for me. I will definitely check this out. She is going to have a huge year with Divergent coming out soon.
I’m usually not*
this looks like a faithful and promising adaptation of a truly excellent book
I read the book (don’t ask) and I can attest it’s rather ace, and I’m usually into this kind of material. Trailer looks subpar, but don’t be deceived I have quite the expectations for this it’s all there in terms of emotion. Anyone saw STUCK IN LOVE? Is this director competent? Is he too indie? Those are my main concerns. Why are they trying to make the trailer sound like PERKS? That is worrisome. A24 are coming along just fine aren’t they.
