The AP reports that the death of Malik Bendjelloul has been ruled a suicide. The filmmaker, who won an Oscar for the brilliant Searching for Sugar Man, was found dead earlier today. His heartbroken brother confirmed that he took his own life at 36 years old.

The question is the underlying issue that drove him to this. I wonder how many Oscar winners have committed suicide?
This goes to show how important an Oscar really is. This is so sad.
Depression is a misunderstood monster that only treatment and acceptance can save one from. This is like succumbing to any other disease, and I feel bad for the very talented Malik as well as his friends and family.
This is such sad news. I just don’t understand why someone who has so much to live for in their prime would take their own life. A struggling filmmaker committing suicide I understand but someone who just won their first Oscar, I can’t wrap my head around it.
