Ava DuVernay is a pioneer for women filmmakers and filmmakers of color not because she is both of those things but because she never considered taking traditional paths to do what she wanted to do. Of course, she had her start in marketing thus she knew the backroads and short cuts that others don’t.
Ava’s distribution company, AFFRM, was launched in 2011 and since has released eight feature films. She is currently launching the company’s membership drive to make it grow and broaden its reach.
