The trailer for Hail, Caesar is here. The Coen Brothers comedy takes place in Old Hollywood and stars Channing Tatum, George Clooney, Tilda Swinton, Ralph Fiennes and Jonah Hill.
The film centers around Clooney’s character, a bumbling star who is kidnapped by a group called The Future. Josh Brolin stars as the studio exec out to rescue him.
Hail, Caesar is released on February 5, but get your weekend off to the perfect start by watching the trailer for this highly-anticipated comedy.
The Coens are among the few who have really mastered the “one for us, one for them” formula. And in either case they don’t give two shits about the awards. You gotta respect that. It’s beyond me how much fun this movie is going to be. The trailer alone left me smiling for the whole day. And even if it’s just a star studded “for them” movie, you can always expect great things from the Coens. They won’t miss a chance to sell a perfectly aimed elbow jab into the industry’s ribs. I can’t wait to watch and rewatch this over and over again just to saviour all the little nuances and references I’m sure the movie is going to be full of.
On a side note. If this doesn’t earn Jess Gonchor and Mary Zophres at least a pair of oscar nods, then I have no idea what will.
The Academy fucked the Coens over with Inside Llewyn Davis, so I can imagine they couldn’t give the tiniest of little rabbit-poop-sized miniscule shits about having their film released in February. Plus, they’ll probably take it to the Berlin Film Festival around the same time, where they’ve screened before. And you know Universal dgaf either cos they’re rolling in it atm and could probs make money on this if they released it for 24 hours on the moon.
There are few pleasures in life as great as watching George Clooney play complete idiots in Coen Brothers movies.
This looks great but what’s up with the Feb release date? #DumpingSeason …unless it proves to be a Grand Budapest 🙂
This looks like such the hoot! And what a cast! Including Channing Tatum channeling Gene Kelly and Scarlett Johannson doing Esther Williams and, uh, Lana Turner?
I am so looking forward to this. Afer binging on all the prestige fall releases, this will be an oasis in what may be a dreary typical January/February release schedule.
Great trailer! Enough of a tease to not spell out the actual plot (and its denouement).
I’m not really a George Clooney fan generally, but if his performance is as funny here as the one he gave in the Coens’ “Burn After Reading”, I’ll be first in line to see this movie. It just looks like a real kick.
Nobody does dark comedy better than the Coens.
I thought George Clooney was going to play Josh Brolin’s role
Is the Feb release date a tip off about quality, because this is hysterical.
Is the Feb release date a tip off about quality…
If anyone is curious about how many fucks the Coen brothers give about the Oscars you can go back and watch the video of the night they lugged home 6 of them.
Looks like so much fun. Always great to have the Coens back.
