The 3rd full-length trailer for The Force Awakens debuted earlier tonight on Monday Night Football and, for me, it’s the first trailer that feels fully realized in singular tone and style. Something about the sweeping Sturm und Drang really ties the room together, does it not?
This trailer is the second best film this year, after Carol and just ahead of The Lobster.
It’s a gd trailer, but all I see is Star Trek 3.
Actually, all I see is Star Trek 1 and 2, the two J.J. Abrams Star Trek movies that is. I actually have very little against the first of those except excessive lens flare and some horrible wig joins, but I’ve no intention of seeing it ever again. I’m hardly team #FuckJJAbrams but I can’t say I particularly give a shit about The Force Awakens rn. Maybe if it lives up to its potential, with its female and black male leads. Maybe then I’ll get into it.
Dude shut up and go watch the movie, quit being such a hater and pessimistic soul.
lovely trailer. wonderous. sad how jaded we’ve become after all the bombast of the past 36 years.
I dare you, Academy. Snub this in Best Picture, Director, Screenplay nominations and all techs. Snub it. I DOUBLE DOG DARE YA. And then your credibility will plunge into the sewer. The Big Short? SERIOUSLY?
Gitesh Pandya of Boxoffice Guru says this could make $600 million…by New Year’s.
But what if it’s shit? Credibility? Nominating a J.J. Abrams movie for a screenplay award?
P.S. The Academy lost all credibility in my eyes the day it was formed. It’s never had it. They can do as they please. Birdman won last year. We’re all gonna die some day anyway.
The great unknown, then; it HAS to be good. Like, 90 RT and Metacritic good. That would defeat the whole purpose. Money alone can’t send a tentpole movie into a BP race. 🙂
AMPAS was formed in 1927. Shit, you are old. On the other hand, that explains the grumpiness.
Let me tell you a story. I began on the internet on SW message boards. My first user name was Mon Mothra on a site called nightly.net I don’t even know if it’s still there. Anyway, I learned how to fight the internet there. Over the years I moved around, talked movies most at aintitcool as CherryValance and spent time on goldderby as Aura. Then I came here as your dear old friend, Antoinette, which is my given name.
As these new SW movies have been in the works, I’ve been against the idea. I sort of mourned that day when Lucas sold the rights. The prequels weren’t great but they were his and I wanted him to finish 7-9 as we’d always heard he would. I wanted him to finish telling us what he meant to tell us. When Abrams took over, I say okay, these aren’t for me. It’s for the kids who don’t remember. I’ll watch it but I won’t get into it.
Within two seconds of seeing this trailer, I decided I had it all figured out and jumped around the interwebs super fast to see if I was completely wrong. I still don’t think so, but I’ll be curious to see how it all plays out. Old habits die hard.
The Naboo Wave, FTW!
For my part after the prequels, I was mostly done with what Lucas wanted to tell us. Other than the overall universe, I am cool with a different director’s take on this latest installment. Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi had different directors and non-Lucas input into the story lines, and they didn’t turn out so bad.
Also if you can go mostly spoiler free – it can truly be a wonderful thing. I have an ear/eye for recalling scenes/dialog, and found myself going to movies and keying in on scenes from trailers, that I would rather have experienced for the first time watching the movie. It is cliche maybe, but spoilers can in some respects spoil a movie.
To that end, I sort of watched this latest Star Wars trailer, but kept glancing away and covering my ears. My son who also watched it, said the trailer didn’t give away too much of the plot from one viewing. So for good or ill, I will experience the movie two months from now with out any spoiler baggage.
WOW!! That looks amazing. I think J.J. Abrams will prove to have been the right choice as director. Plus, the cast seems like a good fit. It’s only 2 more months away.
Still managed to stick in some lens flares though. Hurm.
My guess is he thinks of it as his schtick, so he’ll probably try to now put it in at least once in every next film.
Let’s hope it’s minimal.
