- At the box office: Ridley Scott’s The Martian made a giant leap to claim the Number one spot at the box office, earning $55 million on its opening weekend. Hotel Transylvania 2 came in second with $33 million, and the new drug cartel thriller Sicario starring Benicio Del Toro and Emily Blunt rounded out the top three with $12 million.
- Concussion starring Will Smith was announced as the Centerpiece screening at this year’s AFI Fest. AFI Fest runs from November 5-12.
- Jessica Chastian spoke out about the sexualisation of female action stars. Speaking to the Radio Times, Chastain said, ” “If you look at films like Elektra and Aeonflux, the problem that studios have is that they try to make kickass women very sexualised. They have to be in some catsuit.”
- A Bigger Splash isn’t out until May 2016, but you can watch the trailer. Tilda Swinton plays a rock star whose relationship with her boyfriend (Matthias Schoenaerts) is tested when her ex (Ralph Fiennes) shows up. Cue jealousy, passion and maybe even danger. Luca Guadagnino directs the black comedy.
