Washington DC Area Film Critics Announce Nominations

Double nomination for Alicia Vikander, a nice pop for Sicario in Best Picture. Alex Garland nominated for Best Director is pretty cool. Sarah Silverman and Amy Schumer also get nods. The DC area film critics have been around since 2002. They have a pretty great track record for predicting Best Picture. They didn’t pick just a few winners like The King’s Speech, Million Dollar Baby and Chicago. If this is a year that leans popular, it won’t be a big deal that The Martian isn’t a critics’ choice (in fact, it’s a plus for Oscar) but if this is a year where the Oscar voters vote against the popular films, especially one as wildly popular as The Martian, they’re going for Spotlight and the race is over. Either way, the films are all good choices. It’s a good bet that four out of these are getting in for Best Picture.
