I’m loving the original screenplay recognition for Inside Out. Hopefully this is the first of many…
If the outcome, come Oscar night, would be this one… I can happily live with that:
Best Film:
Spotlight
Best Director:
George Miller (Mad Max: Fury Road)
Best Actor:
Leonardo DiCaprio (The Revenant)
Best Actress:
Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn)
I think a Spotlight/George Miller split is looking more and more like a consensus for critics. BUT this tells us very little about the Oscars. I have no idea which way the guilds will go. Except that DiCaprio and Ronan are looking strong in the lead categories.
Will SPOTLIGHT and MMFR continue to be the two leaders? Or will THE MARTIAN and/or BROOKLYN swoop in instead? What about CAROL?
In my tally of the critics awards and polls, though, Mad Max remains considerably ahead of Spotlight for Best Picture. Mainly because Mad Max has come in as runner-up or some of Spotlight’s wins, so it picks up points for that. And because Spotlight is lagging seriously from the polls.
I hope so
Let the Leo sweep begin!
Preach!Leo and Ronan are definitely on fire!
Since no one can really picture McCarthy actually WINNING the directing Oscar right now, is George Miller an actual legit contender? Or will the guilds simply Boyhood/Birdman all these critics groups again. I would love Miller to make a real run at it, I’m just not sure it’s going to happen.
He’s a contender for the nomination. The win will take one hell of a push from WB.
And how…
Of course, one can “picture” McCarthy winning. It’s standard operation procedure with the Academy to twin the Best Picture winner with Best Director. Doesn’t always happen and I’m not advocating that they should, but, it is certainly something that could be “pictured”.
is the general public as enthused by the ‘mad max fury road’ film as critics/movie
mavens ??? i’m guess no. i mean it’s not like something like ‘the
‘departed’ (yawn) or ‘no country’ (arrrgh). which the general public
really seemed behind. more wowed by. translation if mad max were to
win best pic at the oscars. i think i would still be seen as win for “them” not for
“us” (you know not a win for the general public. *ha ha*)
so a win for max may not be the big populist move it’s partially getting pushed as.
if someone want to co-sign me to hell for saying this that’s cool. if someone to clarify things a bit that’s cool too. but your ultra novice is in the house and i pretty much never see things the same way as the a.d nation. and and so far the vibe i’m getting is critics awards watchers/film mavens are the groups really wowed by this film. so the general public doesn’t hate the newer max. but are they raving about it/won’t shut up talking about it ???
so good choice or not/i don’t think the populist thing and max really fit.unless you’re just counting box office and people knowing the franchise.
yes,i’m always willing to ask the questions that make me look ridiculous. 😉
Will Alicia be nominated for Ex Machina instead of The Danish Girl??
Well, if DiCaprio takes critics’ awards also, he is probably unstoppable…
Leo is unvincible this time, Yeah, but he must share his Gold with the bear. :))))
where are the limited action action figures of the bear ??? .the perfect holiday present for your cinemaphile…
and it’s not just a bear/ it has a name… 😉
i really hope when ‘the revenant’ goes retail.they put a “leo not raped by a bear” sticker on it. that would be so classic. 🙂
Lol, but did you know that my bookies in UK are going crazzy when Leo jumps onto the Academy stage reaching for Gold, then mate, they pay me a bunch of money for my next holidays ! :))))
