After the nominations were announced on Wednesday morning for the 2016 Screen Actors Guild Awards, Hollywood stars react to their nominations:

Michael Shannon
99 HOMES
Nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role.
“It’s very meaningful to be honored with the respect of my peers. I love the Guild – I’ve been a member for 23 years, and I’ve felt lucky every one of those years to be a part of it.”

Helen Mirren
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role Woman In Gold
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role Trumbo
Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture Trumbo

“Thank you fellow rogues and vagabonds. Once is an honour, twice is surprising, three times is a miracle.. I know they are called the SAG awards but I feel very perky today.”

Saoirse Ronan
Brooklyn
Nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Lead Actress
“This film has been such a wonderful and personal journey. I think it hits so close to home for many people, making the incredible response so special. I’m honored to be nominated by SAG not only because they are my peers, but also because I’m overwhelmed to be recognized alongside actors whose work I admire so much. I’ve been lucky enough to be a working actor for almost 10 years and the mere fact that people can finally pronounce my name is pretty exciting! I share this with the whole Brooklyn family.”

Mark Rylance
Bridge of Spies
Nominated for Actor in a Supporting Role

“I want to thank my fellow SAG members for nominating my work in Bridge of Spies and Wolf Hall. I have been a member of an actor’s union since I became a professional actor in 1980 and am proud to be connected to the Union movement in America and England. I am also very grateful to all the talented craftspeople I have had the pleasure to work with on Wolf Hall and Bridge of Spies, particularly Peter Kosminsky and Steven Spielberg who are directly responsible for my performance in both pieces and all my fellow actors and crew. I would especially like to acknowledge my friend Tom Hanks. I don’t think you can isolate my playing of Abel from Tom’s playing of Donovan. It is the friendship between us as characters that should be awarded. Many blessings.”

Alicia Vikander
The Danish Girl
Nominated for Outstanding Performance by Female Actor In Supporting Role
“I’ve got two phones and I called my mom and dad in different ears. They seemed as surprised and happy as me.”

Adam McKay
The Big Short
Nominated for Outstanding Performance by Cast In a Motion Picture
“I think that’s actually the coolest. It’s a recognition that we had just a murderer’s row of actors in this movie. So I love seeing that. And you know [Christian] Bale’s performance is unbelievable, so it’s nice to see him recognized. But the ensemble one is really nice.”

Idris Elba
Beasts of No Nation
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role/Luther Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries
“Wow I’m just floored and humbled right now. It’s such a huge honor to be recognized by my friends and peers and for two projects that have really been such an important part of my life, Luther and Beasts of No Nation. It goes without saying that my performance is shared with the tremendous actors I work with. Congratulations to Abraham Attah, Kurt Egyiawan and the rest of the amazing cast from BEASTS!”

Kate Winslet

Steve Jobs
Nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role
“This makes me very very happy. I am truly thrilled and grateful to be nominated for a SAG award this year. This really means a lot to me.”

Michael Fassbender
Steve Jobs

“Thank you so very much to SAG. I feel greatly honored, especially as this is coming from my peers. It really does mean a lot to me.”

Brie Larson
Room
Nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role
“Screen Actors Guild…thank you!! I’m so overwhelmed with happiness. This is a HUGE honor, made even more special because I’ll get to share the evening with Jacob. Best date EVER!”

Jacob Tremblay
Room:
Nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role
“I am celebrating my SAG nomination with my family in Dubai. We’re having ice cream sundaes tonight! Everything about ROOM was amazing, especially working with Brie and becoming best buddies. I can’t believe it, so cool!”

F. Gary Gray, Director and Producer
STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON
Nominated for Best Ensemble Cast
“SAG, this is phenomenal! We are thrilled to be recognized as an ensemble, because ensemble is at the very heart of our film. It
was an effort begun with a dream of Cube’s and Dre’s long ago, to bring their story to the screen, and made a reality by this amazing cast, our screenwriters, producers and the continual and continuing support of Donna Langley and Universal Pictures. Thank you from all of us.”

Sarah Silverman
I SMILE BACK
Nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role
“I am honestly in shock and just tickled pink that this happened. My first thought was that I can’t believe my Mom isn’t here to see this. I wish I believed she is somewhere seeing it. Maybe for today, I will.”

Eddie Redmanye
The Danish Girl
Nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role:
“It means a great deal to be recognised by my peers during such a wonderful year of filmmaking. The Danish Girltook a long while to get made and I am damn lucky that I ended up having the honour of helping bring Lili and Gerda’s story to the screen. I am hugely grateful to Tom Hooper, Alicia Vikander, and our incredible cast for this truly unique collaboration. I certainly wouldn’t have been able to play Lili were it not for the generosity of the trans women and men who helped me prepare for this role; I am indebted to all of them and the community. My thanks to SAG-AFTRA members for this nomination.”

TV Stars react:

Hugh Bonneville
Downton Abbey
“The cast of Downton Abbey are thrilled to have received this nomination. The show is a true ensemble and for our team effort to have been recognised by our peers in the Screen Actors Guild makes it particularly special. We salute SAG, our fellow nominees and of course Dame Maggie for her richly deserved umpteenth individual nomination!”
