My favorite wins were Sylvester Stallone, Spotlight for picture and screenplay, George Miller for director, Ex Machina. Oh yeah, Big Short for comedy, too. I liked Tremblay’s speech-so cute.
What’s everyone’s most favorite win and least favorite win last night? Movies, TV, or both.
My favourite win was Miller. I don’t have anything against any of the winners, but I would much preferred Mara to have won BSA.
That too (Mara), but I’ve not yet gotten around to seeing The Danish Girl, so I’d rather abstain on that one, for now…
You know mine… Spotlight for either BP or Best Ensemble. A lot of runners-up that have nothing to do with Spotlight, like, for example, Ex Machina for Best Sci-Fi/Horror. 🙂
As for least favorite, I guess The Big Short for Best Comedy, over Inside Out and the others. Because Inside Out deserved it more, in my opinion, but also, of course, because it’s (kind of) a sign of strength for The Big Short (which is bad for Spotlight, irrespective of whether or not it’s a sign of things to come).
For TV: best – Andre Braugher (runner-up: Master of None); worst – Tambor, because it’s too predictable (I’ve not watched this show), and I was hoping either Will Forte or Aziz Ansari would get a shot this time around…
At the Oscars I hope:
Actor: Leonardo DiCaprio
Actress: Brie Larson
Sup. Actress: Rooney Mara
Sup. Actor: Sly
Brie Larson was outstanding and in awards conversation for her beautiful performance in Short Term 12. Room just confirms her as a brilliant actress that deserves all the accolades. Saoirse Ronan will receive the honors she deserves in the future 😉
Basically, my oscar predictions if you change Spotlight for The Big Short at Picture, Stallone for Hardy at Supporting Actor, Furious 7 for The Hunting Ground and Mad Max for The Danish Girl at Costume. I’m guessing 8 wins for Mad Max (including Director), 2 for The Danish Girl, The Revenant and The Big Short (adapted and Picture), and 1 for Spotlight (Original), The Hateful Eight, The Hunting Ground, Inside Out and Room.
How did a movie get nine awards and let did not win picture?
It happens. ”Cabaret” won 8 Oscars (including Director) and still lost Best Picture to ”Godfather.”
And ”Cabaret’s” 8 Oscar wins didn’t include any Action categories. 😉
Genre-bias + Sequel-bias
Two awards for the Best Picture winner? It sounds baffling, but, whether it’s The Big Short or Spotlight, it looks bizarrely likely this year. Though, both have the potential to win at least one more.
Tom Hardy beating Mark Rylance and Sylvester Stallone for Supporting Actor would be a massive shocker!
Amazing moment from The Revenant http://imgtiger.org/yd5jfia9fxps/bear.jpg
Oh my gosh, I just saw Tremblay’s acceptance speech <3
Academy, shame on you for not nominating him!!!
PS: Can we just talk about his dad? Like, seriously!
Like seriously! Academy voters should have voted for him just so we can see his dad there if for nothing else! He looks so delicious…
His father is a cop too. So u have a uniform and handcuffs. 😉
William shatter seemed to be having a fun night backstage.
Bfca does mean something. It means the race for Oscar is still unpredictable wait til the guilds and that will teach you who the best films to win Are.
For people taking the awards seriously:
Embedding is being hell but you get the picture.
Amazing winners… Deserved winners. Happy for Charlize Theron !!!!
Jacob tremblay, Carrie coon, Judd apatow and Stallone made the best.speeches last night
No, Vikander gave the best speech.
Mr. Robot and Master of None winning series, Coon winning drama actress and Braugher winning comedy supporting actor are all amazingly excellent.
Yeah, I’m happy for all of those as well!
Still waiting for Ronan to “sweep the season”…
Ronan will win only Bafta. Brie Larson is unstoppable.
She doesn’t care. Larson instead campaigned harder than anyone has ever campaigned. No contest.
She’s not been shameless on the level of Sally Kirkland or Melissa Leo or Sharon Stone… Or even Leo this year.
I still don’t see what’s wrong with campaigning.
Yeah, nothing… Some campaigns verge on self-parody though (e.g. DiCaprio’s tales of suffering).
In Leo’s defense, it really is the media that is running with that story, for this movie. He’s tried to pull it back and put it in context but it’s makes for good copy so it’s not going away. I don’t feel bad for him Bc he makes 20 mill a year and gets tons of PR for his movies but he does look annoyed when they keep asking him.
Thanks. It’s about time someone said that. I’m sure DiCaprio is sooooo sick and tired of being asked the same ”When are you gonna win an Oscar?” question. Even though he’s a millionaire, it must still be as annoying as hell and would try ANYONE’s patience. DiCaprio’s been gracious, always saying, ”that’s not in my control,” and it isn’t. With any luck, he finally wins, just to get the monkey off his back and shut up his detractors.
Speaking of that i found it odd that they made him look all grungy but did nothing to his teeth. Why would Glass have such white teeth?
I let that one go a while ago will all actors. The teeth are almost always 21st century capped and too white. One more reason to appeciate Hardy. His teeth are a hot mess. No changes needed.
But Larson had to go back to work. Ronan ( I think she not booked) can spend the next few weeks catching up.
Ronan is making her Broadway debut in a few weeks and going into rehearsal for The Crucible. So she doesn’t have a lot of free time either. Maybe she was hoping to win?
Oh that’s right. All I hear is Hamilton. Hamilton Hamiton. I forget about other shows. I’m not a Crucible fan but I think I’m going to go see her. ( I gotta get to View From A Bridge too )
Previews start 2/29. Opens 4/7. 20 week run. I suppose she may be able to squeeze in a good 2weeks of campaigning.
If she can’t campaign she’s done. Hoping ain’t getting it done.
If I was in her place I would do the same. I imagine if Marion Cotillard hasn’t campaigned for her Oscar. We would have one the most unfair scenarios ever.
Campaigning is something absolutely normal.
Normal but unpleasant to see. Artistic merit should be the only factor.
Should have hustled.
Someone mentioned below about the “optics” of Brie’s no-show. I think it’s made even worse with how Leo handled his absence right afterwards. Let’s not forgot that Brie has won most of the awards leading up to tonight, and this wasn’t exactly unexpected.
I noticed rewatching parts of the awards last night, Saoirse Ronan *was* at the Critics’ Choice Awards. I’m not sure if any of the other nominated leading actresses were. I know that makes me feel all the more sympathetic for Ronan while still not bowled over by Larson’s performance (perhaps too oscar-baity for my tastes) as much as others.
If any of the other nominated leading actresses were there, I bet the cameras would’ve cut to them.
This year seems very tough to predict. Hmmm
Right now I see it like this:
Mad Max wins 5: BD, Editing, Cinematography, Production Design and Make up/Hair
The Revenant 4: BP, Actor, Sound editing, Sound mixing
Spotlight: 1 – Screenplay
TBS: 1 – Screenplay
Room: 1 – Actress
Creed: 1 – Sup. Actor
Carol: 1 – Sup. Actress
Hateful Eight: 1 – Score
Inside Out: 1 – Animated
Star Wars: 1 – VFX
Customes, I am not sure 🙁 Any from MM:FR(6?), Carol(2?) or Cinderella(1?).
Revenant is winning cinematography.
TBS – editing and screenplay
BP – Revenant/TBS
No way that MM:FR is not winning editing.
miller is what innaritu should have been on the revenant…create safe work environment and should not have created unsafe work environment so that the crew bitches about movie and his golden globe speech of “pain is temporary and film is forever” felt little too arrogant and it felt as if he is trying hard to please movie makers.
So
Picture – revenant/the big short(No way creepy pedophile movie is gonna win best picture)
Director – Miller
Say what again? Pedophile movie?
spotlight dude…its not gonna win for sure….if it wins academy is supporting media…academy never supports media…even though people in movie are good ones…most of them are sleaze bags..
Dude, then say that they won’t give it to a movie about journalists. And it’s such an understated movie that no one could be displeased with it, really. How can you hate a movie like this?
its like all presidents men or network…you cant really feel strongly for those reporters who themselves are little shady in getting information and withholding it…
1) Did you see Spotlight?
2) Network and All The President’s Men couldn’t be any more different.
dude they waited till they can build the whole case against church and not release info about a single priest…you clearly dont have brain..do you ?
Thank you for posting the same message three times in case we were too blind to see it.
Did you see the part where they actually published the investigation and caused mayhem in the public opinion and in the Catholic Church? Or is your memory failing?
the fact we are questioning each other is the reason this movie aint gonna win
o_O
Precisely. One is investigative journalism, the other is a satire and harbinger of shitty media.
Where did they wothhold it knowingly ? What film did u watch ?
dude they waited till they can build the whole case against church and not release about a single priest…you clearly dont have brain..do you ?
They explained that within the movie………
that doesnt matter…they made morally questionable decisions themselves…movie doesnt have feel good movie feel as well…its just too depressing…not that any movie out there is uplifting among nominees..martian may be but its too weak…its either TBS or revenant…with actor going to leo that might push revenant forward…TBS has too less of nominations…if TBS has to win then bale should win, editor and screenplay should win ….i dont see bale winning no way in hell…
Well TBS was not a feel good movie either nor was the Revenant.
but big short is about something current..elections…banks…..people being screwed by banks….if they win..then people will see the big short and vote wisely….people are still angry about the consequences of the big short
It would be pretty stupid is people formed their consensus based on the Big Short. It is not really as smart as people make it out to be. And the film itself is bad. So…
[deleted]
whats gonna happen if spotlight wins ? its already old news..what has to be done has been done and its just over…no one cares….
“Not gonna win for sure…if it wins…”
Is this an oxymoron?
”Most of them are sleaze bags.” As a journalist myself, and I’m worked with tons of them, that is total and unadulterated B.S. … There are bad apples, but the vast majority are pros.
in a totally unrelated reply, my favorite journalist(s) movie is still Broadcast News
Mine is “All The President’s Men”, which I also think is one of the best films ever made.
Yup, same here. Spotlight is a clear second, though.
AIG picked up that pain is temporary line from Leo. When Leo says it, it makes sense and shows dedication. AIG said it and it made me cringe. He’s responsible for hundreds of people who don’t make 20 mill or get seen on screen. No one is going to remember the crafts person. Def arrogant coming from AIG. He may not hear how it sounds bc of the language difference but someone needs to sit him down and get him on script.
He gives terrible speeches. While I truly like his interviews. What a strange man.
I don’t think enough people appreciate how hard it is to be speaking in a second language. But he seems like the type to be too arrogant to accept media training. Leo would have to be the one to tell him.
Come on, he doesn’t have to lecture on quantistics, these are acceptance speeches. Ang Lee is Taiwanese and he comes across as so likeable when he speaks.
Ang Lee just seems like he really has his sh*t together. Like Nolan. Precison craftsmen.
Well when you compare him to other directors he does seem low key arrogance wise and his English is just a bit hard to understand sometimes
AIG has won three Oscars last year why should he care about hurting people’s feelings? Many of the great directors used questionable methods to get the best from their actors or best result from the crew. Some of the famous, such as Kubrick and Hitchcock didn’t win Oscar and that’s maybe that may the reason but they did at least produce masterpieces. AIG has won and he can just pursue his vision without caring about what they think about methods.
I agree with u, he doesn’t care and at this stage of his career doesn’t have to. Hollywood created a monster. Now they have to live with it. Maybe he doesn’t get any more specific awards just for him but his films will still get recognition. He has his best director trophy. U aren’t going to see him grovel as a luncheon for people to like him.
No one on the cast will ever say anything damning about Innaratu so Hollywood will not care.
they already did long ago lol…thats why he addressed in golden globe speech
LOL you think these people have long memories? They do not care. And if some damning things do come out then the suffered for the Art.
if there is not other movie like revenant then its difficult production is understandable..but mad max had difficult production from australia to south africa….you hear no one bitching about it do you ? thats to miller’s credit
Well if they actually bitched they might have gotten some awards or stuff but anyway.
Also Revenant just finished shoting while Mad Max was two years ago. They had time to calm down.
Hardy has gone on record about the poor communication being the biggest problem not the weather. He’s mentioned it in junkets and in a sit down with Anne Thompson. But Leo doesnt say anything so nothing did happen. AIG isnt going to change bc his way is producing awards and profits. His backers dont care. Studio doesnt care. U can always hire more bodies and spin the pr. Now the guilds know whats up so thats why I think Miller can get a split. He’s the good guy visionary that tackled weather problems. AIG is bizzaro Miller.
I knew of Hardy mentioning it but then again Hardy does not really have a good reputation s who knows how much his word is worth.
This is a bit off topic but Hardy gets asked back by directors and colleagues. So if Nolan works with him 3x, Leo personally vouches for him, even Nicholas Winding Rehn who Hardy has bashed on the record said he would work with him again. Charlize and he made peace. I don’t think he an easy person to work with, he’s very blunt and that can be off putting to some people. He doesnt make it easy for the press or PR but he is upfront about it so u cant say u dont know what u are getting when he signs on.
I think he and AIG worked out their issues and they really do like each other now and I think AIG got back on track when they brought in a new producer and has made a lasting peace of art. I just think George did the same but in a more professional way. So point to him.
Ps-apologies for rambling.
No i liked Hardy for a long time and still respect him as an actor. However the shit he pulled with the reporter is too much for me because i do not like entitled people. But Hollywood has actual pedophiles, rapists, domestic abusers roaming free so i doubt a lil bit of rudeness matters.
About the Charleze thing though even if Hardy had screamed from the rooftops that he was the one who was hard to work with media would have found a way to blame her as they did when the initial reports came in.
Ugh. Drew is a known complainer and a hypocrite from his Ain’t It Cool Days. He goes on an unprofessional rant about Hardy,in writing, rather than address the issue with the PR people. He never mentions Leo being at the same junket with Hardy Bc knows he would never work again. Then gets mad when Hardy responds and Drew plays victim. No sympathy for him.
I didn’t hear Charlize getting any blame for MMFR but absolutely agree she would be run out of town if she ever behaved like Hardy. She already gets labeled as cold as if it’s her job to be warm and friendly to u. No she just has to be professional and courtesy which she always is but isn’t enough for an actress.
exactly…in any other year innaritu is lock but when miller is better at handling….innaritu wont win
There is nothing creepy about Spotlight.
Agreed. Nor are there any scenes of pedophilia. That’s a bogus way to characterize the film.
I saw FURY ROAD for the third time yesterday and I’m still in awe. Can a movie be that good? It’s quite frankly unbelievable that Miller pulled this off at his age. And we’re still talking about genre, action, SAG Ensemble nods, Script nods. Just give him the fucking statuette.
Well said with F…S…:))
couldn’t agree more. and if you watch the bluray extras you’ll be even more impressed with what Miller and his crew achieved. a new classic!
Predictions in the top 8 categories
Best picture: spotlight
Director: George miller mad max: fury road
Actor: di caprio
Actress: Larson
Supporting actor: Stallone
Supporting actress:, winslet
Adapted screenplay: the big short
Original screenplay: spotlight
Leo win and similarity of spotlight and big short in terms of narrative is gonna make the revenant win best picture for sure..its a LOCK.
Best picture – revenant
director – innaitu/miller
actor – leo
Noted – and added to database.
Ughhhhhhhh. If even the critics go for the safe choice, why should we expect the Academy to act differently? Mad Max deserved this.
In my opinion, the ‘safe’ choice this year also happens to be the best choice. Besides, Spotlight is easily one of the best reviewed movies of the year, so I don’t think there’s any inconsistency here.
Spotlight and Mad Max have very similar Metacritic scores and Best Picture wins. Also, come on. They could have been just a little bit bolder. Imagine the fuss with Mad Max being the Critics Choice. It would have been amazing.
Not that I’m unhappy with Spotlight, it’s a very good movie, but in a year like this…
I know. Which means either would be a consistent choice for them. 🙂
Yeah, it would have been interesting for MMFR to be the Critics Choice, I agree… And I’d be quite happy with that too (Fury Road being my no.3 and all), but this was good for Spotlight’s Oscar chances, so, for that reason also, I prefer it, personally.
Just watched a video discussion of Revenant at the guardian. The 3 critics were convinced it was going to take it all.
Haven’t heard Sasha rate its chances much?
Another thing I took from the Hammond video I mentioned before was how unreliable the “academy voters I spoke to” anecdotes really are. One of them spoke of the love for Straight Outta Compton. You can’t rely on a small sample of people to predict anything
On the GG- we know they don’t have much predictive value. What they did do is elevate Stallone to prominence (he is looking very likely despite no SAG nom) and prominently established The Revenant as an alternative choice in the minds of voters
God yes, speaking to two or three people just means two or three people thought something. And yet it’s often reported as though it’s indicative of the entire group of voters. Also, people tend to be drawn towards those who hold the same opinion they do, so the reporting often isn’t truly objective (see Feinberg and Mad Max).
My own two cents, not about these CC awards but overall.
Loving the unpredictability of the race this year. It matches the quality of 2015 as far as movies go. I am not very fond of The Revenant, but I get it: it has the appeal. I just won’t revisit it much after this year. I will, however, revisit Spotlight. I found it a very impressive writing / acting achievement.
Mad Max: Fury Road, Inside Out and Straight Outta Compton most impressed me from the 2015 roster. Sadly, the latter two weren’t deemed worthy of the BP nod. So my only true “oh please make it happen” moment concerning the BP and Best Director race is MMFR and Miller.
I think we won’t have a clear picture of how the Oscar night will end come Feb 28. Editing might go to The Big Short, Sup Actress to Rachel McAdams. And then neither movie gaining any more traction. However, if either gets to win other categories besides those two… then Director and Picture become more probable.
I’ll be rooting for MMFR and Inside Out; and Leo & Stallone for the wins and standing O’s. Shame about the dismissal of Straight Outta Compton.
Should be an interesting night!
Yours,
T
This is good for Revenant and Inarritu. To be voted by the industry they must be despised by critics.
Saw the Revenant over the weekend.I can say that it is an amazing film from start to finish. It will win best picture at the osacrs.Stunning visuals, increadible acting from Leo and Tom.A true masterpiece..
Agreed. I love Inarritu’s films but this genre doesn’t interest me, so I expected to be underwhelmed.
I was blown away
It amazes me how people on here do not see a revenant sweep at the oscars..With 12 noms and they are still dismissing it!!
Yes, we’re all so stupid and ignorant of history…
So now:
-Di Caprio locked
-Brie Larson locked
-Stallone: will see at SAG, if Rylance miss win (i think Christian Bale could win) probably is locked, otherwise we have a race but right now He’s the front runner, another standing ovation also.
-Mara, Vikander, Winslet, i have no fucking idea.
-George Miller is happening? Split Spotlight/Mad Max is coming.
-BP: The Big Short is not happening, Mad Max i don’t think so. Spotlight is going to win.
Or THE REVENANT/Mad Max
BIG SHORT may very well happen I think
Agree Leo is a lock. I think he would have to be caught on camera committing a felony to lose at this point. And even then he still might win.
Don’t think Larson is a lock because BAFTA could go Ronan. Larson is filming so Ronan is free to campaign. She is extremely charming in person. ( She did Q&A at NYFF.) If SAG goes Larson, it looks bleak for Ronan but still not a done deal. Ronan has time to visit all those actor retirement homes.
Supporting actor/actress who knows? If Sly had scored a SAG nom then I would say he was it but his fellow actors have some issue with him. Screeners went out timely. People know his name, obvs. And it looks bad now if he’s the one that wins for Creed. Bale has that ‘story’ going around that he couldn’t do Ferrari bc of the weight gain and he learned the drums for The Big Short. Makes him look uber dedicated to his craft. That’s a good story to campaign. Hardy has the 3 movies he worked, 22 nominations for 2 of them story. Rylance could get the BAFTA, he’s well respected theatre actor, that keeps his hopes alive.
Probably Winslet for the Oscar Bc Mara and Vikander split the vote.
Miller for BD. AIG is a producer on The Rev so he can get his acknowledgment with a BP award.
Spotlight is not happening. Once the voting opens up to the large populations/guilds it’s going to get steamed rolled by the Revenant/Big Short/MM FR train.
ETA: corrected Bale to Big Short. Spotlight wishes they had Bale for their movie. 🙂
Bale wasn’t in Spotlight dear. He played the drums in The Big Short.
Rylance is too subtle. Most psychics I talk to forgot he was in Bridge of Spies. “Who was Rylance again?” Asked Judy over a beef and cheese sandwich.
“He was the man that was barely in it”, I said. We agreed that means he doesn’t have a shot. Oh.
Judy is vegan, you f*&$ing liar.
What did you say about Spotlight getting shut out of the nominations?
For me Larson is locked like Leo, look at the nominees: Room has screenplay and directing also, in a movie that is based basically on the performance of Brie and Trembley, but Trembley was snub. For me Larson is going to sweep all television awards.
Sup actor: split SAG/BAFTA is the best scenario for Sly.
I do agree that Larson’s role gives her the advantage. I just added this to my initial comment but I think Brie filming is going to hurt her. Ronan is really charming. Leo is doing PR for The Rev but he’s got the over 40, lost 4x, in a hot film protecting him. Cranston cant beat that plus he has a Tony and Emmy. Brie does havent a cushion. I suppose one could argue the Academy wants to recognize Room w/ that out of the blue directing nom, and Larson the logical choice.
Re Trembly the Academy’s thing of not nominating young boys is weird bc they will nominate young girls which gives me a bit of the creeps.
Re Sly, even with a split I dont see him winning. He was a mega mega star. He’s not owed or overdue. His nom is his reward. If anything, I can see the old male actors in the wing being resentful of him.
I think Sly is beloved by so many though, not just actors. The whole Academy votes for the Oscars. He’s been around. I can see Editors, DPs, Production Designers, screenwriters, etc. support him. I think he wins. I think the lack of a SAG nod is really overrated.
Overrated? Only once has an actor won BSA by missing SAG nomination: Christophe Waltz
Remember Waltz was a former winner and was a in the zone as best supporting actor in those three years. Sly is not an actors actor and it’s hard to believe his will not be based on he’s popularity. He maybe popular among the public and journalist but it doesn’t mean he’s popular among he peers.
That’s my issue with Sly. I truly like the guy. Lifelong fan. Stayin Alive is legit one of my fav movies and I dont mean ironically. Love Rocky, Rambo, Cop Land, COBRA, Nighthawks etc. But Is he really beloved by his peers? I don’t think a standing O in two fluff award shows means he is that guy. Seems like the type to over manage ie to rewrire scripts, make costume changes just be overinvolved in the process bc he’s Sly. Rub people the wrong way. Tries to hard because people assume he just a dumb meathead.
ETA- I think Hardy’s lack of a SAG nom can be explained by The Rev’s late release date and he respected by the film actors. The TV/radio side of Sag might not know him. Sly’s absence is a snub by his acting peers. Maybe he can charm his way to an award. I have my doubts.
If The Big Short is not happening, it won’t be due to last night’s results… It did quite well, and it was never ever going to do better with critics, in my opinion. It’s the movie’s best performance with any critics group this Oscar season, by far.
The only telling loss it suffered could be Best Ensemble, but even that one’s questionable.
Good to see Tremblay up there. What a performance, and too bad he didn’t make the AMPAS cut
Despite snubs and everything what i will cherish about the Oscars is that Amy Schumer will not be there.
This proves that Rooney Mara was never the frontrunner, Alicia was always there. She’s so talented, I’m so glad she won.
remember academy rarely gives to first time nominees…other than if they are in industry for like ever…….bale, whitaker, foxx etc…alicia is just this year..rooney was already recognized by oscars for dragon tattoo…so they will see consistency in her…i guess after giving it to cuba gooding jr they thought may be they should give to more consistent actors..
Vikander is everywhere. Mara not really. But maybe the Carol snub will help her.
I don’t understand all the fuss about Vikander. She’s quite good in Ex Machina, she’s average in The Danish Girl. Jennifer Jason Leigh and Kate Winslet deserve it more than she does.
I’m currently In New York celebrating with psychics on my 100% accurate readings for tonight’s winners. I don’t like to gloat, but wow I did it again!
Blanchett is still in my forecast to win best actress, and Spotlight had its last shine tonight because it won’t win anything during the Oscars.
The best speech was- Leonardo DiCaprio. He wasn’t even there and yet his video moved me and my other readers to tears. We agree he’s the underdog to win over favorite Michael Fassbender. Although Fassy played the most important man in the computer world, Leonardo is more impressive as a Frontiersman who beats the Indians. And as a white woman, it was my PRIVILEGE to see him on screen portraying his heritage so beautifully.
Worst speech- Jacob Trembly. Totally obvious that he had rehearsed his lines, and totally obvious he needs plastic surgery already! Those missing teeth were not cute. The fact that he seemed pompous on stage just goes to show he didn’t deserve his award- he deserved a spanking!!
jesus dude you need not campaign for leo anymore he is going to win oscar….btw how much is fox paying you?? already i am pissed off that the overrated performance is getting the hype from fanboys who dont know what acting is…physical performance is done by lot of great actors and they never win nor do they get the buzz but this leo narrative is simply because he is overdue..i mean he is 40 yrs old how the hell is he overdue? johnny depp is overdue at 50 yrs and depp never acts for awards…leo acts for awards…eddie redmayne and fassbender are far better performances where as cold water and this shit is just pathetic…but the bottom line is he will win.
First of all I am not a dude. I’m a lady.
Secondly, I don’t campaign for anyone. I see and read the future. And right now I am reading that you’re a very upset busy body.
Leonardo did more then just physically act. Look at the way he says “My son”. The clarity, the vocal range- the fact that he had to do all of this in the snowy cold weather, with a itchy long beard. That takes work and practice! I could never act that well. Maybe the “My” part- but never the “son”. That would be too much.
if you want to pick on a word..i can tell look at how clear matt damon says “lets science the shit out of this thing” but thats not it…you always need to ask would any other have done this role better?? i immediately think of daniel day lewis or christian bale.
But if you take say bale’s role in the fighter no one could have done the role anymore better than what he has done…he practically looked and became a drug addict…now that is a performance…dicaprio is just lucky to be directed by innaritu and the camera angles…if you put me in icy locations i would do the same..infact its winter in my home and i would act the same “tired look”…its just not acting….its called suffering caught on tape…LADY..please dont say the suffering…for batman begins they shot in iceland..and FYI iceland is colder than canada..where is the oscar for bale for batman begins….or johnny depp was dragged by horse while doing stunts for lone ranger…these suffering are all just narratives for awards…you never know if the movie was really that difficult a shoot….they might be saying so to win awards..
I dunno about the rest of you guys, but I think the Golden Globes got it more right this year, film categories-wise, compared to the Critics’ Choice Awards.
I really hope that the Oscars don’t have to split Best Picture and Best Director. 2013 made sense with Gravity and 12 Years A Slave, both towering films, but this year?
I really like Spotlight. I really do. I admire its balance and procedural narrative. But Spotlight is no 12 Years A Slave, and at the same time…Mad Max: Fury Road, The Big Short, The Revenant, and The Martian are all more impressive films with stronger cinematic craft, whether you like their stories or not. All of these mentioned films are phenomenal, but the gap in effort between those four and Spotlight is wide enough to render giving Best Picture to Spotlight a disappointment.
To the Academy: You are free to award Spotlight Best Original Screenplay (my deepest apologies to Inside Out), but please don’t just give Spotlight Best Picture as a consolation prize when any of those aforementioned four will likely clean up the below-the-line categories. If you’re going to award Spotlight with Best Picture, then at least go most of the way in. Give one or both Rachel McAdams or Mark Ruffalo the awards in their respective categories. Give Tom McCarthy Best Director. Give even Tom McArdle Best Editing. At least then, while I wouldn’t have agreed with your choices, I would understand that you simply loved the film over the others.
Just please…don’t compromise with Best Picture.
At least Boyhood last year almost came away with Picture, Director, and Supporting Actress before getting stalled by Birdman. A Best Picture victory for Boyhood would’ve made complete sense with those other two victories…
Wait a minute…
…Now that I think about it, I’m starting to suspect that Spotlight might not come away with Best Picture in the end. The Academy, given their tendencies, won’t give a Best Picture winner just two statuettes, which hasn’t happened since An American In Paris (1951). A decent winner should have at least three, and those other two have to be any combination of Directing/Acting/Editing. Assuming that it will take Original Screenplay, if they give Spotlight Best Editing, then I’ll be okay with Best Picture. If McCarthy wins Best Director, then I’ll be even more okay.
But the thing is…I don’t see Spotlight winning the first one, given its lack of an ACE Eddie nomination and because Mad Max and The Big Short are clearly more standout editing showcases. (Contrary to what many think, there is some truth to “best editing = most editing”. Gravity is, in some sense, still an example of the latter half because they chose to wait for the perfect emotional moment to cut, whereas the unnominated Birdman was deliberately shot to not have cuts at all. The cuts in the latter were emergency cases, so to speak.)
Best Director is a possibility, but I predict some backlash if McCarthy wins over veteran George Miller, reigning champ repeat Alejandro G. Iñárritu (despite him being the reigning Best Picture champion), or even comedy-to-drama-transitioning Adam McKay. Not to mention DGA would have to back McCarthy first.
They’re not going to give Ruffalo Supporting Actor while Stallone is there. McAdams was the only actress of the cast to get a SAG nom, but all the other four—Leigh, Mara, Vikander (these last two being the result of category fraud), and Winslet—tower in their films, while McAdams is mostly just a part of the team. A few nice scenes of just her, yes, but mostly just a team player.
McCarthy and McAdams are Spotlight’s best shots outside of Original Screenplay. And even then, their competition is mighty, I daresay even better.
As proven by Birdman and Boyhood last winter, the industry might have a different say with who gets what. Let’s see what PGA. DGA, BAFTA, and the rest of the guilds will do in the upcoming month-and-a-half.
I’ve heard this a bit lately. Best picture usually has 2-3 other awards. What would spotlight win?
Screenplay. Editing probably.
The lack of an ACE Eddie nom hurts though.
Probably. I think it is the only tech spotlight is nominated for and if it wins BP it will take one tech atleast.
With Mad Max (which won tonight), Big Short, Revenant, and even Star Wars (whose original film won in ’78) in the running? Doubtful. While it’ll help its hypothetical Best Picture winner status, it could also be seen as a travesty in the presence of the four other nominees.
I doubt Big Short is a big tech contender. It could have been on a normal year but not with Revenant. Tfa and MMFR
People have spoken about its editing job almost on the same level. Plus, as a comedy, it’s been alone in that discussion. It’s stands out from the three dramas.
Was the show well attended by award recipients? I mean are they taken seriously at all? Might not be an Oscar foretelling highlight…..but I still can’t help but get a feeling from the results.
Scroll down a little and you’ll see my post about the various celebrity no-shows at the Broadcast Film Critics Awards. Yet many of those no-shows were present, front and center, at the Golden Globes. Folks may joke about the Globes, but the celebrities clearly take them more seriously and show up.
thats because revenant has to do well at boxoffice overseas..how does that happen if news and media outlets dont promote the movie?? given that hfpa is connected to media outlets abroad..its a give and take for movie stars with hfpa..so its pretty clear they have to keep attending these shows if they want their movies to be promoted overseas..remember leo is a bigger draw overseas than in US..so go figure
Average US folks also know the Golden Globes. It airs on network tv. It doesn’t have 51 categories. The CC dug their own grave with the stars when they reopened voting for Star Wars.
its not about airing on tv..its about the people who are giving the awards..they are reporter from other countries…if leo comes to stage and increases their viewers ratings..its good for them and vice versa as they would promote revenant to be a golden globe winner in foreign news papers and websites
I agree the GOLDEN GLOBES are important for Foreign Box office which is 70% of gross now a days. But I think CC being on cable hurts it. The Peoples Choice awards had better star turn out. ETA- CC also had better turn out when TV and Film were separate ceremonies. The combo doesnt work.
Mad max fury road has better audience reviews than the movie spotlight.
Interesting Hammond and ONeill podcast on Revenant and SAG. They said their promotional materials sent to them only had Leo, not the ensemble. Seems weird. Also that they sent a link for streaming rather than a DVD which might have annoyed voters. Possible reasons for lack of ensemble nod I suppose.
Andrew, I saw that podcast (and rewatched it), but I didn’t notice them saying that the promotional materials only had Leo. At what time, does that come up? … I did see the bit about how ”The Revenant” isn’t sending out screeners to SAG for fear of piracy & offering streaming instead. Hammond thinks it could be an issue, but in another podcast O’Neil just did, Anne Thompson pooh-poohed that. She insists that Leo’s ”a lock,” and believes that ”Revenant” has the momentum and box office to win Best Picture.
I think they held it up. I didn’t take it as hurting Leo really but maybe explaining why the ensemble didn’t get in
Leo is a lock…..based on how much they love innaritu they are gonna give it to revenant or if they wanna make a political statement the big short..no way in hell are they gonna give to a bunch of sleazy reporters after a group of pedophiles…i mean NO WAY IN HELL..its just too creepy and anti religious as most people have faith in churches and if academy highlights them like this its gonna be very strange
If u go on the Fox awards page, they note they want SAG/AFRA to see The Rev on the big screen. They have specific screening dates and a way to get a coupon. ( No idea why u need a coupon when u can use ur union card.) And they have the streaming link info. Don’t know why they are worried about piracy, that ship sailed before the movie was released. They know this. Not sending screeners now is just a cost saving measure. Kudos to Fox for being the only studio to have already updated their awards page. Already saw a fyc OSCAR ad with AIG, Leo and Tom. Fox Awards marketing consultant team is on the ball here and in the UK. WB is not which worries me.
I’m okay with Spotlight winning Best Picture at the Critics’ Choice. It seemed like it was the critics’ favorite all along. The others are great in their eyes, but Spotlight was clearly their favorite. Now as for Spotlight going on to win the Academy Award, I would much prefer a film like Mad Max: Fury Road or The Revenant to win. I really like Spotlight, but it’s nowhere near as much fun to watch as the other ones are.
My money is on The Revenant and Inarritu to make history by winning back to back Best Picture and Best Director Oscars. The film has everything – epic scope, it’s a historical epic, amazing acting, epic and insane cinematography (so happy that Chivo won tonight). There is nothing else like it, maybe ever.
Mad Max: Fury Road is amazing but it’s a genre and it won’t win.
PGA will decide everything but if you put a gun to my head I’d say The Revenant wins. Really dead certain about it…
I would really love it if you’re right. The Revenant is my favorite film of 2015. Plus, all those reasons you bring up are great points too.
but the movie is just boring and has no plot…please dont say the shit about human spirit…its just about leo wanting to win oscar by torturing himself….its way inferior to the grey in terms of thematic elements…dream sequences felt forced…its just that if they like innaritu and his quest for his vision they might give it to him
I dunno about the rest of you guys, but I think the Golden Globes got it more right this year, film categories-wise, compared to the Critics’ Choice Awards.

I feel ashamed I missed MM:FF in theaters. All of those fire and explosion would’ve been great in the big screen. Sigh. If I remember correctly, don’t movie theaters put back oscar nominated movies into the big screen 1-2 weeks before the Oscar night?
No? Maybe I’m dreaming.
They have done that in the past, but in the age of On Demand and DVDs, maybe it’s rarer. We’ll see.
It was back just some time ago in LA. So you can see if you live there.
I live northern cali :/
Roadtrip! Nothing better to prepare for the movie.
Me too it would have not cost me much since Cinemark has six dollar Tuesdays. Price is the major reason why i have not seen too many movies in theaters lately.
I thought Mara was going to win, definitely didn’t expect Vikander but I think she’s not winning the SAG or Oscar anyway (maybe the BAFTA?) the SAG might go to Mara but I predict Winslet is getting the Oscar in the end (and, if not, RM is)
Larson is winning the SAG and Oscar ( D: ) but the BAFTA goes to Ronan 🙂
Vikander is probably going to win SAG but Winslet is winning the BAFTA and the Oscar ultimately, I think..
To paraphrase Sasha: what do we learn from this? Nothing !!
I still think Spotlight is BP fave. I won’t list the large number of BP winners that are inferior.
As per the gurus O’Gold I see Revenant at #2. I think the “extra” unexpected noms- supporting actor, makeup, visual effects, production design, and it being the clear most-nominated shows its strength with AMPAS. Yes even without screenplay nod.
I just can’t see TBS up there, maybe I’m missing something. A bit more precursor BP love might have convinced me.
So this is really a race between The Revenant and Spotlight for Best Picture. The smart money is on Spotlight but I am putting ALL my chips on The Revenant with the PGA determining the victor in less than a week. Excited? I certainly am!!! 🙂
Velimir, have you seen this SAG-AFTRA ”Revenant” talk with DiCaprio and Inarritu? If not, here’s a link …
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yo5Rb2ZuT7s
Yeah, I did. It was really good. I can’t wait for the PGA. I have stuck my neck out big time on this one and I hope that The Revenant will win the PGA. It makes so much sense. It would be so awesome if it does..
There were so many celebrity no-shows: No Keaton, Ruffalo or Tucci for ”Spotlight,” even though they were up for Acting Ensemble. No signs of Carell or Gosling for ”The Big Short.” No George Miller, Tom Hardy or Charlize Theron to enjoy the sweep for ”Mad Max: Fury Road.” No Brie Larson. I kinda feel bad for Matt Damon, one of the rare big-name stars who actually represented his film, ”The Martian,” but his movie goes 0 for 9.
Oh man…that’s right. 🙁
At least MM:FR sent the wives who are all popular with young women, Zoe in particular. They probably would have them pick up any awards for Tom/ Charlize too but most of the MMFR cats were off TV. Brie not having anyone accept the award was a bad optic. Same with the low Spotlight turnout. The Big Short had Bale and McKay so they were covered. The Revenant had two of the First Nation actors attending so that makes them look inclusive.
I got everything but best song
Good for you!
I got everything right except Spotlight which i gave to Fury Road. Oh well.
Good for you too.
Wow, nearly won CC predictions contest at Gold Derby. 2nd place (my career high), 19/20. Only mistakes – costumes i tought cinderella wins here….;p
Nothing stops the Max! Except for Spotlight. But that doesn’t count.
Yeah right. No one thought Vikander was winning, no one thought spotlight was winning after the Revenant won the globes. I hate when people lie about their scores after the awards show. The winners were not predictable.
”No one thought ‘Spotlight’ was winning after ‘The Revenant’ won the Globes.”
I don’t think that’s true. ”Spotlight” still has the lead among various pundits. At Gurus of Gold, 4 of the 8 columnists are picking ”Spotlight.” And 3 are picking ”Revenant.” Still a lotta race to be run!
The SA race is a mess, agreed but a bunch of journalists picking the smart quiet movie about journalism was a lock.
That was the one thing I got right. Mad Max; Fury Road is a LOCK in 3 categories all the way to the Oscars – Best Production Design, Best Costumes and Best Make-Up and Hairstyle.. These 3 are LOCKS… Everything else depends on the PGA, DGA, ACE, ASC and CAS.
I personally think that if The Revenant wins PGA and DGA, then it might win Cinematography and even Film Editing (that’s my other crazy bet – but only if The Revenant is winning). In the sound categories, I suspect a split – Mad Max: Fury Road for Sound Mixing and Star Wars: The Force Awakens for Sound Editing.
Finally, I think that Best Visual Effects will go to Star Wars: The Force Awakens..
Whether or not ”The Revenant” takes the PGA and/or the DGA, I think Lubezki wins Cinematography. His work in capturing the wilderness is so beautiful and breathtaking, but there’s also the technical tour de force of that tracking shot of the Indian attack and the bear mauling.
BFCA presented awards in 15 acting categories, but only 1 actor of color accepted his prize onstage: Rami Malek (”Mr. Robot”). There was only one other actor of color who won: Idris Elba, whose prize was given off-camera.
I still don’t think Spotlight wins Best Picture at the Oscars, but it is very strong. It of course is up to PGA/DGA but splits def are possible because I just don’t see McCarthy winning director. I also don’t see Mad Max winning Picture. With Ridley Scott out of the limelight, I think Miller is the man to beat.
Predictions as of today-
Picture: Big Short
Director: Miller
Actor: Dicaprio
Actress: Larson
Supporting Actor: Stallone
Supporting Actress: Vikander
Adapted Screenplay: Big Short
Original Screenplay: Spotlight
Insurance works! (Even when it’s only verbal/written.) Let’s see!… What should I predict for the PGA?!… 🙂 Nah, I can’t do it there. It’s the same as predicting the Oscars. I’ll have to actually predict Spotlight, I suppose… 🙁 That sucks! Too much to lose! Man, I wish bookies offered that one! (So that I could bet on The Big Short.)
Of course, maybe insurance just wasn’t necessary here, what with the journalism angle, but I was far from sure Spotlight would win (and I genuinely thought MMFR had a good shot at BP, and, by some people’s logic, I can say I was “close”), so I’m not sorry I went that way.
Duh. As Sasha said, they’re trying to predict the Oscars. Spotlight / George Miler.
Several other critics’ groups have gone with this split this season, if I remember correctly, so, not necessarily, I would say.
They are trying to predict the Oscars by “Spotlight” for BP by are backing Miller for BD,
I have been pushing miller for BD from the beginning in the summer, but the pundits were predicting something else until the critics showed huge support for MM: FR and especially Miller for BD.
I liked this award, except for Spotlight winning.
I thought the show was pretty bad, and Spotlight winning was the best thing about it. So, the exact opposite. 🙂
What did you people expect? The critics are doing as well as they can in pushing MM: FR but they, especially BFAC want to be right too that is why rewarded all the front runners. MM: FR is a critics movie and it has only got this far because they have been pushing for months. It’s a balancing act, if they love MM:FR too much they might give the Academy a reason to go for something else. The critics are saying if to the Academy we’re going name “Spotlight” as BP because it’s the favourite and it’s your type film and if you choose it to then you’ve followed our choice.
Yes, it’s a whole conspiracy…
Maybe they really liked “Spotlight” too, but to me the critics are the one who have been pushing MM: FR from the begging and I’m sure it’s more loved by the critics than the Academy. People here seem to be reacting as if the critics hate it or something. Remember the pundits were predicting something and MM: FR was not even in their top ten. MM:FR has been consistently in their top picks and won almost all the BD critic awards. People should warned and prepare for worst. Remember MM:FR has missed the industry(for example, SAG Ensemble, BAFTA BP and BD) but has consistently won critic awards. Everybody likes to right, so the BFCA have played their well I think by backing MM: FR as far as they can and also picking the favourite for Oscar BP.
Oh, if that’s what you meant, then I agree completely. I misread your conclusions before.
SAG Ensemble : No one expects acting awards out of Mad Max, because there’s not a lot of dialogue and none of the cast members has a suffering and overdue DiCaprio narrative
BAFTA : Brits have different tastes than Americans.
I Mad Max has a nomination from every american guild I think, definitely the imporant ones it was eligible for : PGA, DGA, Eddie. So I wouldn’t say it’s missed the industry. It’s definitely not a typical Academy pick, so I agree that it’s a long shot for BP, but so far the nominations have shown industry support on top of critic support.
The Brits not going for MM:FR in BP/BD is disturbing as is them snubbing Tom Hardy. I think they will go all in on The Revenant. Pick Winslet for SA but have no clue on Supp Actor. BAFTA could do Bale-Elba or Rylance. Same with SAG.
I’m still not sold on a Sly win for the Oscar.
Hopefully the guilds support MM:FR. I would love to see it get OSCAR BP but not sure it’s possible. My tempered hopes for Oscars is Miller for BD and all the crafts except Cinny. The Rev for Cinny, BA & SA plus BP.
Elba isn’t even nominated…
Sly’s nominated for a SAG and a BAFTA. No Oscar. Sly doesn’t have a SAG or BAFTA nom. Rylance and Bale have all three. Hardy only has the OSCAR. ETA- Ruffalo has a BAFTA & OSCAR nom but I refuse to accept anyone is going to pick his overacting performance. He’s better than what he did in Spotlight.
That’s interesting. So the smart thing for the Academy to do would be to choose THE BIG SHORT just to prove they’re nobody’s bitches.
Exactly but that might not be their favourite film. If they choose either MM: FR or “Spotlight”, then the BFCA would be half right. Either way they can’t lose.
I wouldn’t mind a Spotlight/Miller split at the Oscars. If PGA/DGA goes that way then it might seal it.
Fuck splits. Why cna’t they acknowledge that genre movie is great if they can acknowledge the director?
I know.. it sucks. However, I wouldn’t be unhappy if the split is with TR because both are great film achievements for me.
Anything but split with Floplight or Big Snort.
The only lame thing withbthat is Spotlight really only “should” win pic and original screenplay. I thought 12 yrs a slave winning bp with only 3 awards total was weak. 2 would be kinda ridiculous.
My main thing is wanting Miller to win BD so if that happens then I’m happy. And I did like Spotlight a lot.
Has any film won BP and only BP? That’s not an impossible scenario with Spotlight, although it would be very odd indeed.
Grand Hotel. A looooong time ago.
”The Broadway Melody” (1929) and ”Mutiny on the Bounty” (1935) also won Best Picture and only Best Picture, when there were far fewer categories. But what makes ”Grand Hotel” (1932) unique is that it was nominated for Best Picture and ONLY Best Picture.
Correct – I’d forgotten about that.
I just always think its lame win the movie that wins bp wins 3 awards. Especially when another wins 4 or more in the same year. Like Gravity. Wouldn’t the fact that it’s the best in most categories make it the BEST PICTURE?
Hmm, well you can have a film where all the elements are great but the whole isn’t. Not saying that’s the case with MMFR or was the case with Gravity, but I understand it, especially when the bulk of the awards given are for craft.
And yet we just had two Oscar-winning Best Picture with only 3 wins: ”Argo” and ”12 Years a Slave.” (”Gravtiy” won 7 Oscars.) This decade, no Oscar-winning Pic has won more than 5.
Tom O’Neil notes that before 2000, the movie that had the most nominations, often won Best Picture. But in more recent history, that only seems to happen half of the time.
Floplight!!!… Suh-wheat!…
The ensemble win at the beginning is more important, though, I feel, since it beat The Big Short there, where it had a real shot to upset, unlike for Best Film, where the critics were always too unlikely to vote for it.
OMG, this flop host again. Encore! Oy!
I was like “wait. I heard that horse joke before.” lol
lmao, same!
As I posted 2 days ago: ”It’s hard to believe that a group of journalists isn’t gonna honor a movie about dedicated journnalists. In fact, ”Spotlight” could get a nice bounce with Best Picture, Original Screenplay and Acting Ensemble. Plus, BFCA has more than one way to honor ”Mad Max”: It’s also up for Best Action Movie. And they can honor ”The Big Short” by naming it Best Comedy. The Revenant’s” 12 Oscar nominations is probably too recent to have a carryover effect. But if they want to honor it, there’s DiCaprio’s Best Actor win, along with Lubezki for Cinematography and maybe Inarritu for Director.” Other than missing Inarritu, this really happened!
Yes you did. 🙂
In our heart of hearts, we know the critics love MM: FR more than industry and Oscar voters. The critics are the ones who have got MM: FR this far because it is so far different from the kind of film the Academy likes. Blaming the critics is pointless.
Absolutely. If MMFR wins anything i hope one of them thanks the critics.
Mad Max was my #1 of the year, but…. I loved Spotlight too!
*ducks for cover, runs away*
So, now with the Critics Choice and Globes down, these few winners are clearer than ever for Oscars:
Leo for Best Actor
Larson for Best Actress
Stalone for Best Support Actor
Inside Out for Best Animated Feature
This years Supporting Actress is all over the place.
Add
Son of Saul for Foreign
Amy for Documentary
Best Actress is Larson vs Ronan.
Wait till SAG.
This is Ronan deserving of nomination year, not winning year. Larson will win.
Ronan is at this point truly finished. Unless BAFTAs got for her but i doubt it now.
i need to watch mr robot i started first episode but just wasn’t in the mood to dive into something new and haven’t checked it out since but maybe i should , frankly i don’t get the mad max love at all that one flew over my head and went sailing into the dark unknown of the universe never to be seen again but ehhh awards being the nature of the beast i’ve decided as long as leo gets his oscar i’ll forgive everything else that doesnt go my way so guess that means
NGNG oscar pick is the revenant wins BD BP BC and leaves mad max crying in its dust
Spotlight, great movie. Haven’t seen it yet.
hahahhahahahaaha this comment
Best
Lol!!!
Best comment.
They’re the cock tease of awards shows. lol
Spotlight,they got it right
Yes yes…
Mad Max had the best director, best action, best editing, best design, best costumes, best makeup, best effects, and best action actor and actress. But I guess all that doesn’t equal best picture.
It’s a pretty great distribution.
i feel you
hahaha great point!
Somehow.
Somehow the Spotlight parade must continue.
I love MMFR but those action-only categories skewed things. I’m okay with a Spotlight/Miller split, if that’s the way the season pans out.
TRAITORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FILTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GARBAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HATE YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DAMN YOU TO HELLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE SAT THROUGH YOUR SHITTY SHOW FOR THIS SHITTY WIN?????????????? FUCKIN KIDDING ME???????????????????
For your physical health you should be strongly advised to not watch the Oscars.
STALKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! STOP STALKING ME IF YOU HAVE NOTHING COMFORTING TO SAY!!!!!!!
I don’t want to comfort you. I despise you, and NO.
CREEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SPOTLIGHT LOVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Spotlight was nowhere near my top 10 even. You are insane. You are an exclamation point kween and it’s repulsive.
SPOTLIGHT LOVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ew
Finally we agree. Spotlight = ew
Don’t worry fishies. The Star Wars universe has opened up so there will be many movies and awards to come. Winners like SPOTLIGHT will fade into the ether and the fans will know what the true classics are. It’s the way of things. You have to give critics time to catch up. They’re not the brightest bulbs in the shed.
Thank you. Sci fi is blowing up so we will get a sci fi winner before the end of this decade. If AMPAS doesn’t award Max, may it be one of TFA movies.
Spotlight will not win the oscar, I can’t believe this is happening.
total devastation, Bloody hell critics chickened out like totla bitches. And then they whine about AMPAS winners. WTF morons????? this is treason I swear. MMFR needed this. DAMMIT!!!!!
Calm the fuck down, Star Wars fanboy. To begin with, Star Wars wasn’t even SUPPOSED to have any business in the “best picture” category. But looking at how you express yourself, I assume that you’re an angry 14 years old who has no knowledge in movies, anyway.
Fuck off. Star Wars >>>>>>>>>>>>>> everything nominated this year save MMFR
Of course it will. It was a done deal months ago.
Very predictable…
Just look at the tally
http://www.metacritic.com/feature/2015-film-awards-and-nominations-scorecard
SAVE US PGA
i don’t trust these flopsters anymore. what disappointment.
Best ensamble, best original screenplay and best picture lol
typical…
THIS. 🙁
I love so many people in that BP montage. The Oscars could have gotten it so right this year. Dammit. 🙁
TRAITORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!FUCKIN TRAITORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TRAITORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are such a disaster.
TRAITOR! STFU!
WHAT THE HELL?!?!?!?
Like, why bother. What’s even going on this year that a group can show such overwhelming support for one film, then go and declare another film superior to it. I got it with 12 Years a Slave vs. Gravity – one of those films had a clear advantage over the other in many technical regards, but 12 Years was a genuine masterpiece that basically everyone worth listening to had agreed upon as the Best Picture frontrunner. And then we get Spotlight?
I totally agree. Spotlight is good, very good. But it is very much like Argo and The King’s Speech in the sense that it is very safe. Not much risk taking going on. And really, 12 Years vs Gravity was the battle of two epic films with lots of artistic creativity.
Son of a bitch.
I CAN’T! BOOOOOOO
Ugh. Typical critics.
Star Wars upset !
C’mon MMFR! C’mon! Anything else is bullshit! It can’t be anything else! C’mon BFCA, redeem yourself! Do the right thing!
Sharon stone? When you had Shatner and Stewart!?
duh, it’s Sharon Stone!
And hand that Drama Series award to Continuum, Mr. Robot. The former eats you for breakfast and spits you out, quality-wise.
Time for the MMFR crowd to go wild!…
It was obvious Spotlight was going to take it after they gave Mad Max best action film and the Big Short best comedy.
Yes and Mad Max won 10/13 so it is ok.
Never hurts to expect the worst, though… 🙂 (Not that MMFR winning would have been the worst, but Spotlight losing would have, for me.)
Show you just how gone to pieces the comedy field is when Master of None, which we don’t know how many people see, wins Comedy Series.
This is a critics’ awards show, not a people’s choice awards show. I loved that win.
Master of None over Transparent really?
How is Transparent a comedy? I’ll never understand that.
Well I have to admit that Master of None is a better Comedy than Transparent (doesn’t mean series tho..)
Shiny new object plus they just award Tambor
Gosh, their TV awards are almost impeccable! Why are their movie awards so predictably boring???
OH FFS! How many TV shows?
Weird Transparent didn’t get it.
Lol I can’t believe I guessed that right on gold derby!
I’m getting used to James Corden.
I used to call C3P0 “Mr. Robot” when I was a child.
I used to think C3PO and R2 were married based on the way they argued all the time.
I’m certain that there’s fan fiction out there in which they are
😛
why no Better Call Saul? not even an acting nomination?
I love Mr. Robot. Awesome.
So how good is this Mr. Robot?
It’s super addicting and fun. Rami Malek is phenomenal.
Awesome, if a little derivative.
MR ROBOT! WOO!
Am I the only one who believes that How to get away with murder should win all the awards? I don’t get it, they not even nominate this great show!
Stewart is classier than everything else in this show put together.
Supposedly he’s the most endowed Hollywood star.
I thought it was James Woods.
No, there was a list and PS is #1. Take that Fassbomb!
link?
Don’t have it. Was on E Online.
You truly stopped any emotional maturation at age 13, it appears.
STALKER!!!!
So Patrick Stewart and William Shatner are there. Am I the only one thinking what they should have done with that?
are we all having fun? can I get anything for anyone?
Rami.
Malek
The Oscar for Saoirse
The Bear
Time travelling machine to BAFTA’s night please.. And some Baileys or Amarula
Thanks
MMFR Best Picture award.
No. I’m good.
Continuum’s Rachel Nichols getting the Lead Drama Actress award which was erroneously given to The Leftovers lady.
Another award for Vikander
Oscars for Mad Max.
Get to work on it!
ahaha! we’ll do what we can.
PGA for Spotlight in a week’s time, please!…
10 Oscars for Mad Max thanks. Throw in the score too if you can.
Leo won? didnt see that one coming. is he now the new frontrunner?
He always was.
no it’s Trembley according to Feinberg.
Ugh, the Floplight award is next
Prayer circle for Imperator Furiosa.
LOL Leo is so bullshitting.
HAHAHA!Shitty award for shitty actor, eh?
Everyone who wins BFCA is shit. I still want MMFR to win.
Brie, learn from Leo
What? Expect to win and create video acceptance?
She could have asked someone to accept the award on her behalf.
When has an actor ever asked someone to accept an award for him/her? That’s pretty rare/weird.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQoCeMK5N2E
Tom Hardy had Domnhall Gleeson pick up his BIFA for Legend.
That was better than not appearing at all. … DiCaprio and Inarritu were just in London and Rome, promoting the openings of ”The Revenant,” so they’re all over Europe right now.
You’re right. Brie’s a terrible human being. She shouldn’t win an Oscar.
WAT
How TF did Redmayne get nominated for that flop performance!?
You mean how come he wasn’t nominated for Razzie for that?
hahaha u guys are so mean
Is this shit nearly over? Best Actor, best Picture, no more TV shit, right?
Just a 10 minute Amy Schumer encore first.
O.M.G. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
maybe a memorial with Amy Schumer singing
Shit, where’s memorial?
Rami Malek sit on my face
Stop! 😉
Rami Malek can come sleep with me haha
I’ll have to fight you then 😉
Rami Malek fuck yes!!!
Aden Young is great in Rectify. Great show, btw
Justice for Malek
Why are those fail people presenting major awards?
And people here are saying that Larson’s desperate for the Oscar…
She filming movie
Is Johnny Depp drunk and there? or just drunk?
I thought he was supposed to present actually.
really? wow. in pirate costume?
I love Ronan’s performance, but what Larson did was terrific, she deserve this.
I enjoyed Joan Allen’s restraint more. Hope Ronan wins.
I have hunch Fassbender will win 🙁 Revenant wasnt critics’ favourite
Shit award for shit performance.
So it’s Leo award then, surely.
William Shatner is the only guy there having fun… he’s getting paid.
Hopefully SAG will get this right and give Best Actress to Saoirse Ronan.
Lel, even Larson’s thirst has limit, she snubbed BFCA.
I think she’s filming Skull island.
That movie’s gonna bomb, yo. Stupid concept, no stars.
I think you’re right. One of the Producers on that got nominated for something else was talking about all of them being in Australia when Oscar noms came out.
Shoot I thought this was Ronan’s big chance.
Poor Ronan. Only actress to show up and lose anyway.
That’s really humiliating. To sit through this crap only to lose it to someone who didn’t even bother.
It’s about the Oscars – nothing else.
One of my all time favorite awards moments was the first year this was televised. Orlando Bloom had to lift Dakota Fanning so she could give her speech. *sings “Memories”*
Orlando Bloom’s on fire. HPFA wants him, BFCA wants him, all shitty awards want him to present their awards. LOL, he’s presenting best Actress. What he won actor last year? Or actual winner didn’t want the honor?
Orlando Bloom, the actor.
Processional presenter more likely. BFCA is another flop after HFPA that enlisted his services cause they couldn’t enlist people that everyone wants to see. You know, TFA cast.
I feel sorry for people who never win anything relevant and are so sincerely grateful to this trianwreck organization for giving them something. So sad.
How can Viola Davis not win? I can’t understand.
She paid them to lose. Who would want this? Even Brie Larson doesn’t care.
So yellow and white doesn’t look bad. Who pneu?
CARRIE COOOOOOON!!!!!
if people think AMPAS will go the same way as these awards then dream on!!! cuz it ain’t happening, well maybe except for mad max but the main categories will not be the same
We’ll see. I think Director might hold true.
Remember Sasha told us in advance, these awards will tell us nothing
thats wt i mean..
Could be, could be not. If you referring to me, my opinion is not based on these awards. It’s just my thoughts and I know that we’re having crazy Oscar season and everyone can win.
Who’s this flop host? is he a volunteer? he can’t be paid for this shitty hosting can he?
hahaha some times you do make me laugh! 😀
🙂
Worst host EVER?
Strahan and Tyler were bad but this guy is next level awful
I just said so. he’s like a church group host. Total suckage paid in peach pie slices.
Jason Alexander was really bad too. Everyone has been awful at this show.
I honestly have no idea who this guy was before tonight, and I kind of wish it stayed that way.
Yup.
This award show is being great, so far… hope it ends soon.
I kinda want to see THE BIG SHORT again. Hmm… is it still in the theater?
I guess it will be similar at Oscars with Spotlight to win BP, Larson BA and obviously Leo. The only surprise is Vikander, I still think Mara is a frontrunner. But it makes me think, if the Academy didn’t nominate Carol for BP and Haynes, so maybe they didn’t like Carol that much and it makes a way for Vikander.
And maybe Revenant and MMFR will split between tech awards. The rest (Miller too) stays the same, at least imo.
The Big Short was hi-la-rious! …
Lol McKay won an award. Still so strange to see.
Big Short. Gosh. I hope Max takes picture.
Oh wait a lot of THE BIG SHORT peeps are there. Good for you! 😀
I saw Bale, but were Carell, Pitt and Gosling there?
No, but Finn Wittrock was and he was so fine I went blind. lol
Inside Out was ROBBED!!!!
Inside Out is absolute brilliance, I think most people don’t even realise!
He seems wealthy… if Michael Mann knows about it…
This group has erroneously given the award intended for the silver screen’s preeminent gold medalist Kate ‘the GREAT’ Winslet (The Dressmaker, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) for her performance as Joanna Hoffman in Steve Jobs to a different performer. I hotly await the apology of the voters!!
-Mothra
what did Bale win for?
being awesomesauce
he totally is.
Steve Carell did better in The Big Short, just saying.
both great, but i agree
And Ryan Gosling, that was not nominated! pfff
So that’s why Bale showed up lol
Bojack!!!!
Geez, why all the hate of Amy Schumer in these comments? She’s someone in Hollywood who doesn’t take herself too seriously. That alone should be appreciated. Also, I think she is hilarious and Trainwreck is great.
At least JLaw gives a good speech. Schumer is awful and the worst part is that she thinks whatever she says is funny.
“oh man… ok, bye” schumer last words in this award season
Love her.
is this woman ever going away?
I’m sorry but they’re rewarding Amy Schumer for playing her true self in Trainwreck. Lily Tomlin and even Melissa McCarty gave better performances, way funnier too.
They got both supporting awardswrong , shb Rylance and Mora even though she is a lead .
So how come so many people didn’t show up? It is baaaad
That other award should’ve been contingent on her not getting another stand-up routine.
what an actress…
Just in case you didn’t get enough of Amy Schumer …
Enough of this rambling train wreck
