Based on short stories by Maile Meloy, Certain Women is set in a small town in Montana and follows three women’s stories. Kristen Stewart plays a lawyer who has to travel for four hours each night to get to the night class she teaches. Michelle Williams plays Gina, married to Ryan (James Le Gros). The couple try to build their dream home, but an elderly neighbor stands as an obstacle trying to stop them. Their marital issues are exposed along the way. Laura Dern also stars in the film as a lawyer working with a client trying to file a personal injury claim.
Directed by Kelly Reichardt, Certain Women premiered at Sundance in January, and IFC have acquired the U.S rights to the film. Sony Pictures will distribute the film worldwide.
Jonathan Sehring, President of Sundance Selects and IFC Films said, “The entire team at IFC Films have long been fans of Kelly and are thrilled to finally be working with her. She is a master at her craft and one of the most distinct storytellers working in cinema today. Along with her amazing cast of Kristen Stewart, Laura Dern, Lily Gladstone and Michelle Williams, Kelly has created another treasure that confirms her as one of our great American filmmakers.” He added, “We can’t wait to bring it to the theaters for audiences to see.”
A release date has yet to be set for the film.
