Our friend Tomris on Twitter figured out that it’s possible LaLa Land will be or could be headed to Telluride because it’s listed as “Canadian Premiere” in Canada. Michael Patterson, of course, was all over this and beat me to the punch. I’m going to cobble together my own list and then list his choices.
“Arrival,” Denis Villeneuve, USA, Canadian Premiere – definitely possible, considering Prisoners went to Telluride.
“Bleed for This,” Ben Younger, USA, Canadian Premiere – possible Telluride pic.
“Manchester by the Sea,” Kenneth Lonergan, USA, Canadian Premiere – Already shown at Sundance – its Telluride fate is unknown.
“Neruda,” Pablo Larraín, Chile/Argentina/Spain/France, Canadian Premiere – predicted already by Michael Patterson, I believe, to be a T-Ride pick.
“Toni Erdmann,” Maren Ade, Germany, Canadian Premiere – already shown at Cannes but possibly.
If only La La Land and Arrival are going to Telluride that will make us very happy to be going to this beloved festival.
Patterson, who is known as a bit of a trouble maker up at Telluride for his predictions, concludes:
Arrival
Bleed for This
Frantz
La La Land
Maudie
Neruda
Things to Come
Toni Erdmann
Una
I will admit to being overly excited about Arrival. While Prisoners was not my favorite film, Sicario was a major step forward, I thought, for Villeneuve. I’m not sure what it is about this one that has sparked my interest. Possibly because it’s sci-fi, possibly because the short story it’s based on is fascinating. Either way, I’m very curious about it.
