New photos capturing Meryl Streep on the set of The Papers have surfaced. The Steven Spielberg directed film stars Oscar winners Tom Hanks as Ben Bradlee and Streep as Kay Graham. Liz Hannah and Josh Singer have penned the screenplay that tells the political story of journalism versus government. Sound familiar?
Set in 1971, Daniel Ellsberg Pentagon analyst gave the New York Times the Pentagon Papers, secret documents that exposed how the government had mismanaged the Vietnam War and lied about it. An injunction was issued against the Times and Ellsberg took the documents to The Washington Post where Graham and Bradlee battle to get the papers published, taking it all the way to the Supreme Court that ended with a victorious win for journalism as the Supreme Court ruled the publication of the documents fell in line with the First Amendment.
The film which began shooting in May will be released in time for Awards Season. Check out the photos of Streep below:
