The Cooler gang looks at the Writing and Directing Emmy races in our last Phase 2 Emmy deep dive. Plus, we give our own Emmy wishes.
This week at the water cooler, our Phase 2 Emmy analysis continues with an extensive look at the Writing and Directing races. On the drama side, without a Game of Thrones entry for the first time in several years, the field feels wider open than normal. Will love for Stranger Things push the Duffer Brothers into the winner’s circle? Or will the sheer momentum and filmmaking prowess of Westworld push it over the top? Plus, will the two nominated female directors of The Handmaid’s Tale cancel each other out? On the comedy side, is it really just Veep’s to lose? Is this where the Television Academy is most likely to recognize Donald Glover for his Atlanta achievements?
But first, we’re foregoing TV Tidbits this week to each give our one Emmy wish. What performances, series, or craft do we want the Television Academy to recognize the most?
We close our podcast, as always, with the Flash Forward to the television we’re most anticipating in the upcoming week. Be sure to visit Awards Daily TV and vote for the 2017 Coolie Awards! This is your opportunity to award your favorite television of the 2017 Emmy season with Awards Daily TV’s very own trophy.
