Well, folks. It’s all come down to right now. The first contest of Oscars 2019 doth commence with the National Board of Review. We’ll be doing a more in depth preview in the coming days but if you think you know how these are going to go, here is your chance to prove it.
The NBR is the first out of the gate on Tuesday, followed by the New York Film Critics a couple days later on Thursday (that contest will go up tomorrow). The NBR tends towards a winning film that isn’t the one that will win the Oscar. But it does often push a film into the race, the same way the Golden Globes can. It’s partly getting out of the gate first. It’s partly that they don’t really exist in the same bubble as film critics, and it’s partly that they’ve been around since the 1930s. Whatever it is, they are a divisive group of voters but there is no doubt they have influence on the Oscar race.
Thank you Marshall Flores for putting together the form in a timely manner!
Go for it.
