Best to break the news fast and simple. Rob’s ballot project for Awards Daily hit a glitch and he has found to his dismay that the data for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress is corrupt and inaccessible. He only discovered this disaster a couple of hours ago. But he’s been able to set up an emergency do-over for us and built new ballot forms for those two vanished categories. Anyone up for an election replay?
We’re so sorry this happened. We know all the thought and effort you put into your nomination picks. We appreciate your devoted participation and we’ll be doubly grateful if you would please re-select your choices for all the actresses whose work you adore this year.
Here’s the new ballot to recast your choices for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress.
Okay please consider MICHELLE PFEIFFER’s in WHERE IS KYRA? and KEIRA KNIGHTKEY in COLETTE for Lead Actress and ANGELA LANSBURY in MARY POPPINS RETURNS for Supporting Actress.
I’m glad I clicked on this because, like Zach, I wouldn’t have thought it was for the poll.
Anyway, my picks:
Toni Collette, Hereditary
Julia Roberts, Ben Is Back
Carey Mulligan, Wildlife
Melissa McCarthy, Can You Ever Forgive Me?
Amandla Stenberg, The Hate U Give
Emily Blunt, A Quiet Place
Millicent Simmonds, A Quiet Place
Nicole Kidman, Boy Erased
Emma Stone, The Favourite
Rachel Weisz, The Favourite
Really wanted to pick Blake Lively for Supporting for A Simple Favor but I couldn’t. She wasn’t better than the actresses listed. Though she was pretty awesome.
I believe Blake Lively is co-lead with Kendrick so I voted for her in Lead.
Hmm. I’d say Supporting.
******A Simple Favor SPOILER******
Blake disappears for the middle section of the film.
Granted they are the two main characters but Kendrick is THE lead and main character.
To bad Lionsgate didn’t even bother to put up an FYC campaign for it or any of their films in contention for that matter (except for Ben is Back). Kalfus’ CDGA snub is annoying.
I will close the new ballot around 7PM (Pacific Time) on Monday. That will give me the time to assemble the data.
And the other categories have been done! Results soon!
Happy to participate again, but I must say that the title of this post made me think it was going to be a think piece on the Lead Actress contenders. Not a poll redux, and I wonder if people miss this.
Same aku suck ryan that happened when I submitted mine mate those categories hardest me remember first and last name each actress and supporting you all suck lol coming from me reallllllly saying something ( I may add temporarily very very much of course – isolated to this issue)
Lady Gaga, Glenn Close, Elsie Fisher, Emily Blunt, Julia Roberts.
Emma Stone, Claire Foy, Nicole Kidman, Olivia Colman, Rachel Weisz.
I’m actually glad you are redoing these categories ’cause I think I misspelled Toni Collette.
Funny, I had the same actress in both lead and supportung Rachel Weisz for disobedience in lead and favourite in supporting beyond that i had Thomasin in Leave No Trace in both categories in thr second slot bc I didnt k ow where she went. I followed it up on lead w Kiki layne for if beale street could talk, olivia cook for thoroughbreds and viola Davis for widows.
In supporting I had michelle Yeoh, Regina King and emma stone
1. Olivia Colman, The Favourite
2. Natalie Portman, Vox Lux (just in case)
3. Regina Hall, Support the Girls
4. Yalitza Aparicio, Roma
5. Joanna Kulig, Cold War
1. Natalie Portman, Vox Lux
2. Elizabeth Debicki, Widows
3. Rachel Weisz, The Favourite
4. Jeon Jong-seo, Burning
5. Emma Stone, The Favourite
Colman didnt do that much, she had less screen time than the other 2.
Anyone know where Thomasin James Mitchell from Leave No Trace goes?
Having less screentime does not equal to not doing much IMO.
Absolutely, and she did so very much with her time.
It’s pretty strong category fraud. I would have made Emma Stone lead.
Screentime is the sole reason why Mahershala Ali is supporting and Mortensen is lead, some consistency would be nice
If we were to be strict about it, Colman, Stone, Weisz, Mortensen and Ali should ALL be lead. But that’s not how awards season works.
p.s. If they can’t all be lead, I do agree with picking Colman. Stone and Weisz are almost symmetric, and Colman is the central person in the story.
I would have had Emma Stone as lead too. Her and Weisz are more the leads than her. But whatever. She was great either way. I do think they actually screwed themselves by putting her in lead because she’s not going to win Best Actress now and she easily would have taken it in the Supporting category. Which would have been nice because I can’t stand that Regina King is going to win. Now she didn’t do much in If Beale Street Could Talk. Definitely doesn’t deserve to win.
Exactly! That she had less screen time only makes her performance even more impressive, since the film leaves us under the impression that she was lead.
Please do not panic when you see my ballot big boy!
Lead: Colman, Colman, Colman, Colman, Colman
Supporting: Foy, Yeoh, Foy, Yeoh, Foy

Excellent choice of pic there Ryan. I am working on the rest of the ballots right now (at 3AM) to have them to you to enjoy on a Sunday morning.
You’re a legend.
Here’s a form for voters who need a top slot
Toni Colette – Hereditary
