Jimmy Fallon debuted the exclusive trailer premiere on the Tonight Show.
Sasha Stone has been around the Oscar scene since 1999. Almost everything on this website is her fault.

That de-aging digitization has gotten Cats’ digital fur technology shoookdt!
Honestly if the whole film looks this good it’s a potential best VFX nominee or winner depending on it’s overall reception… This could win just because it’s the “most best picturey” option. Like FIRST MAN last year… Although I still hope ENDGAME wins… They deserve it for the franchise alone.
I think it looks very good. I’m sure it’ll be a slow but interesting film… The Aging effects look as good or better than anything I’ve ever seen and weren’t distracting in the least hopefully it’s the same through the entire film.
Well, a little bit out of topic, but still about the Oscar: It has been just announced that Laura Dern will be this year spotlight at Ghotam Awards, and receive the Gotham Awards Tribute. Also, she will be interviewed by Greta Gerwig in the comeback of the Inside Actor’s Studio. I think this cement the perception of a frontrunner status, and I hope she keeps this frontrunner status in the Best Supporting Actress Race.
I think Pacino has gone unnoticed so far this season. I know we haven’t had a lot to go on, but in a weak Supporting Actor year, you would think Pacino playing Hoffa in a Scorsese film would be put right to number one spot, meanwhile people keep speculating on DeNiro getting into a packed Best Actor field instead. A couple things I think help Pacino are that his performance doesn’t seem to be effected by the digital de-aging tech, and the fact even though he has a Best Actor trophy (earned way too late in his career), he hasn’t won a Supporting one. Combine that with a small but memorable part in the beloved Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and he could be a Frontrunner come tomorrow.
It’s Marty’s Once Upon a Time in America
Or his Grumpy Old Men… 😉
Honestly I’m not that bothered by the chatter that this isn’t Goodfellas Redux. The “just like Goodfellas” stuff arguably sunk Casino at the time it came out and how long has it taken for that film to be truly judged on its own merits. If he’s aiming for something less operatic and more existential, I’m willing to give it a look.
I´m also looking forward to see it, but the trailer gave me a hunch that most of the actors are seriously a couple of years too old for their roles. This could be a problem.
Geez, I hope so.
Quick thoughts:
-Liked it more than the first trailer.
-The de-aging didn’t distract me. Happy about that.
-De Niro looks good, but Pacino looks better. Pesci, Keitel, fine. Romano looks fun.
-Looks like some wonderful Production Design in there.
-Trailer leading that there will be humor interspersed with the drama.
-3.5 hours, holy Hell, lol.
-Looking forward to it, big time.
Agreed…Pacino looks better here to me too
Looks really great, in my opinion. Still, I think that performance wise, I would be betting on Anna Paquin (which seems oddly completely forgotten from the trailers, due to a supporting role) as the most viable bet as the male acting cathegories seem really packed this year and they are doing their usual stuff. Still it will depend on how meaty her role is and how much she is on screen. But right now, at this point, I can’t see this film winning Best Picture or Director, nor any male acting award (specially over Banderas, Phoenix and Pryce, three due liked actors), nor screenplay. Multinominated, yes. Winning BP or any big one, I can only see Paquin because of the benefit of the doubt that they may be hidding her on purpouse till the last minute… but on overall, right now I don’t think she will be nominated, either. Right now I still continue with this suspicion…
Picture – Jo Jo Rabbit
Director – Taika Waititi
Actor – either Banderas or Phoenix
Actress – Reneé Zellweger
Supporting Actor – Waititi or Pitt
Supporting Actress – Scarlett Johansson
Original Screenplay – Once upon a time in Hollywood
Adapted Screenplay – Jo Jo Rabbit
well.. if this delivers, it will be a serious contender for every major award come Oscar night
