FINALLY! Some love for Shadow.
So 1917, JOKER, OUATIH, FvF and AVENGERS seem like safe bets for sound editing… STAR WARS would be the alt
Frozen II did good here. Surprise Rise of Skywalker nom, a pleasant one.
Another tick for Joker. I think the discrepancy between critics’ circles and the industry awards this year will be huge when it comes to Joker. 8-9 nods incoming for it, I think.
yep, very happy to see that industry is embracing it.
at this point, Joker seems likely to get these nominations…
Picture
Actor
Adapted Screenplay
Film Editing
Score
Cinematography
Sound Editing
Sound Mixing
Make Up
… and possibly, Director and Costume.
That is up to 11. Wow.
I have had the feeling for a while that it’ll end up with 7… Don’t ask me why… It very likely could hit the double digits. Which is insane.
I think Director is pretty safe at this point. Could it be that Joker is going to be the most nominated film, even more than Hollywood and Irishman?
Hollywood could get:
Pic
Director
Screenplay
Actor
Sup Actor
Editing
Production Design
Cinematography
Costume
Irishman could get:
Pic
Director
Screenplay
Sup Actor
Sup Actor
Editing
Production Design
Cinematography
Visual Effects
I don’t see either of them getting in the sound categories though. But that’s 9 apiece.
I think you’re right on the money Jesus in regards to Joker!
I always thought that if Joker was to be an Oscar contender outside of Phoenix it would be because of industry support more than critics support, but damn, I never thought it would have THIS much support. It has shown up almost everywhere.
Everywhere except Costumes. Probably not much incentive for the guild to nominate 2-time Oscar winner Mark Bridges (The Artist and Phantom Thread).
The previous film that was ignored here but was nominated for a sound editing Oscar was The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. So in recent years they’ve been pretty much in line with the Oscars
Also, suprised but glad to see A Hidden Life pop up
I’d say a safe lineup looks something along these lines right now:
1917
Ford v Ferrari
Joker
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood
