On Saturday, a group of us will be assembling for Zoom game and Q&A for our readers. We figure, we’re all cooped up at home with nothing to do, the industry has frozen in place, we’re unsure of what the next few months will hold. So a bunch of us have to decided to break up the monotony and test each other’s knowledge of the Oscar race (no IMDb cheating, which means I will not be winning this game).
We will be starting Saturday at 3pm Pacific. We’ll be playing live but will have the feed available later for anyone who misses it.
The schedule is:
Introduction
Oscar trivia game
Ask us Anything
We’re asking readers to submit a few questions – either trivia questions or anything you’d like to hear us talk about for our AMA section – what our predictions are, what we think about Netflix, who our favorites were, etc.
For the trivia section, up to five questions can be submitted and they can be anything Oscar related.
Please submit them to Matt Neglia, who will be our MC. (matt [at] nextbestpicture.com)

Be there or be square!
my fave Oscar trivia is that there is a scientist/inventor who won 2 Oscars and 1 Palm d’Or in Cannes… and it is one of the biggest personalities of the XXth Century in science, entertainment and ecology.
If it’s who I’m presuming you mean, I think it’s three Oscars (two for features, one for a short)
Completely right. I did not go to IMDB to check it out, I knew he had won in 2 categories, but did not remember he won 2 times one of them. One of the most influential personalities in the XXth Century and no one has yet made a *serious* big budget biopic about him… his life has everything, inspiration, innovation, world-changing, controversy and drama. Most we got is that underrated weirdo comedy by that other genius director, that was inspired by him, while never fully going into the biopic territory, just reimagining his life and persona.
Damn, who is it?
😉
Jacques-Yves Cousteau. He even co-invented the Aqua-Lungs! One of the most important human beings of the XXth Century.
Thanks, I wouldn´t have riddled that one – thought you would be talking about some spanish language director. But Bunuel for example wasn´t that versatile, of course (I checked that one, to be honest).
another famous inventor/enternainer… Hedy Lamarr. Outstanding woman, I won’t spoil her invention… check it out at wikipedia and think how much her invention has changed the world.
Hi, I was wondering how I could get to see this? I can’t seem to find a link on any of the participating sites

Here!
Cool. I wasn’t able to watch it yesterday.
Thank you!
I love watching this so much. My question is read at around 42:30.
Good one: I stopped and didn´t watched the answer yet, but Ang Lee is certainly one of them. And of course Alfonso Cuaron. Damn, two more, I dunno… 🙂
Hi there. You have two of the four—yes. I knew that the other two would be the more difficult, esp. one person who is very old-school. I am not even sure what he looks like. I should find that wonderful picture of all the best directors. (There’s a black and white photo of every Best Director. I love looking for John Ford’s picture in there four times and Wyler and Capra three times.)
It’s on Awards Circuit’s Youtube channel! I sadly can’t post a link.
Thank you for making this happen, it was delightful!
This was today right? Really sad I missed it! Hopefully there’ll be another one because it sounded like a really cool event
It’s tomorrow at 3pm Pacific Standard, you haven’t missed it 🙂
Oh cool you’re right, doing bad timezone conversion (figured out Saturday 3pm is 10am here but forgot that Saturday in the US is generally Sunday here)
Super cool!
This is going to be awesome. Mark Johnson’s a beast at Oscar knowledge.
I can’t wait!
