Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch, Pete Docter’s Soul, and two Steve McQueen films are among the film selected for the Cannes 2020 lineup. Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic necessitated cancelling the physical ceremony, originally scheduled for May 12-23. The films included in today’s announcement will contain the Cannes 2020 logo as they are screened at film festivals later in the year.

Cannes artistic director Thierry Fremaux revealed the official lineup in a press conference earlier today. No prizes will be awarded this year. Last year’s winner Parasite went on to win the Oscar for Best Picture at this year’s ceremony. The Cannes 2020 jury was to be headed by Oscar-winner Spike Lee. He will be invited to head next year’s jury.

“Cancellation has never been an option,” Frémaux remarked. “As you probably know, the Festival was canceled only once, in 1939. And only one other edition did not go to completion, it was in 1968. In 2020, if [the festival] could not take its usual form, it was necessary for it to take another form. It could not just disappear.”

This year’s selections mark a slight increase in the number of films directed by women: up to 16 titles compared to last year’s 14.

Here are the official selections for the Cannes 2020 festival:
