Okay folks, we’re getting down to the wire here. In just a few hours the Producers Guild will announce their winner. The show begins at 5pm Pacific and we will be covering this starting then. Probably the show will be quick and streamlined like the WGA awards were.
Either that or we’ll all kill each other before that happens but you know! Give me your No Guts, No Glory for tonight and take our poll for what you actually think WILL win.
Remember, the only film that has ever won the PGA without a DGA nomination is Driving Miss Daisy. So, it probably has to be one of the DGA 5. So I guess the only one of the five that is a true No Guts, No Glory – I’ll go with Mank.
And don’t forget to enter our contest.
And for this poll please choose what you think will ACTUALLY win:

My bet is my NGNG because… it’s a producer’s wet dream. I went – unsurprisingly – with Borat. It was a suicide project and became the film that probably was more covered by the media… without probably spending that much in Marketing. It launched an actress career to stardom and managed the impossible and also was probably a factor in Trump’s defeat thanks to the Giuliani scandal.
Normally, it would be Minari vs. Nomadland vs. Chicago 7 vs. Promising Young Woman, but I think they have so much passion behind them, that after the GG for Comedy and the WGA, PGA is possible as well. So yeah, I say Borat.
Joshua jzmes Richards cinematography through the lens is simply sublime. It’s the strongest thing about the film as well as its direction
My Octopus Teacher wins Documentary
I successfully registered and they emailed me a link, but when I click on that link I get a screen that says “Wrong Link”. Anybody else having that problem?
🙁 I hope you got that sorted out! It was fun watching these – exciting… (Although the by-necessity format didn’t help.)
Thanks for responding. I didn’t make the connection, but it was okay, because the announcements of winners came along in relatively short order. I didn’t feel left out. Glad you enjoyed the show.
It was a well -produced 90 minutes, creepingdoubt, but visually you did not miss much. Everyone seen on screen was attending virtually, by remote camera.
It looked less Zoom-room than a lot of recent awards shows, but was still very static and of course completely lacked any sense of immediacy.
Next time any opportunity like this presents itself we’ll try to get the word out faster so that people have time work out the tech kinks.
Thanks for noting my troubles. At least I didn’t miss a scrumptious show. Glad to hear that you hope to give earlier help in the future.
I saw last night you were having trouble, and I emailed the PGA for advice or solution. But never got a reply back. I scrambled to see if I could help, but then when I failed I decided it was best to not add to your frustration.
I was actually relieved to see that there was nothing much to see!
Gee, thanks for going to that email trouble. All’s good.
“but visually you did not miss much”
Exactly. 🙂 Probably about the same as reading the results, give or take a not very exciting pre-recorded speech… Unless just witnessing history being made excites you. (Which is definitely the case for me, and the reason I enjoyed it, in spite of the circumstances.)
That sounded dirty – I should have phrased it differently. 🙂 Definitely no such intention on my part.
“Dirty?” I have no idea what you mean. Absolutely no harm, absolutely no foul. Shine on, Claudiu!
🙂 Excellent – then it was just in my head! And thanks!

It’s an omen folks !!
how do you watch this online if you’re not a pga member?

but go fast because I think it begins in about 6 minutes
What is it that people like about Trial of the Chicago 7 so much? Is it just a convenient way to digest sort-of history in a feel-good way? What’s the thrill?
Good question… The things I liked about it were the performances and the fact that it was a pretty fun movie. Overall, though, I didn’t particularly like it and, were it not in the awards conversation, I feel like I would mostly have forgotten all about it by now.
Nomadland winning here wouldn’t be shocking but this is probably one of the hardest awards for it to win so if it does win here I don’t think it can really lose the Oscar. I am predicting it to win but kinda hope it doesn’t to keep things interesting
If it loses it could still win picture but it could indicate it being a Boyhood type contender
I’ll pick “Minari” because I want the PGA to stir something.
C7 should win, but won’t. The Nothing Ever Happens movie (*coughNomadlandcough*) might. Let’s go anarchist and root for either Borat Subsequent Moviefilm or Sound of Metal. Both would be worthy BP winners this go round.
Life “happens” in Nomadland. That’s plenty enough.
Just like in Boyhood, that many also claim that nothing happens.
The Crying Game , Apollo 13 ,Saving Private Ryan , Moulin Rouge , The Aviator , Brokeback Mountain , Little Miss Sunshine , The Big Short , La La Land , and 1917 all won the PGA and lost the Oscar . It should be Mank or Chicago 7 but will probably be the overrated Nomadland or the overrated Promising Young Woman .
Nomadland
NGNG – we find out Judas is actually this year’s Argo/Green Book
Minari, obviously
Who will win – Nomadland
No guts no glory – Minari
(anything outside Nomadland can be considered a “no guts no glory” prediction now, as Nomadland is largely the favourite)
Promising young woman
