One of the more anticipated films of the upcoming holiday season, Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci dropped a trailer today in addition to several buzz-inducing character posters. Right off the bat, the film is already getting recognition for its hair and makeup work, thanks to the shocking transformation of Jared Leto — unrecognizable in his character poster and in the just-released trailer.
What to make of the film itself?
It certainly looks visually stunning. It’s a well cut trailer that gets tons of mileage out of the costumes, production design, famous faces, and a brilliantly chosen “Heart of Glass.” But really it’s the cast. That incredible Oscar-heavy cast directed by the great Ridley Scott.
Scott’s House of Gucci is based on the 2001 book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed by Sara Gay Forden. It, of course, stars Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Leto, Jeremy Irons, Jack Huston, Reeve Carney, Salma Hayek, and Al Pacino.
House of Gucci will be released on November 24, 2021.
The book is very interesting, and I am very excited for the movie. It’s my most anticipated of the year.
This should be a gas – I hope Gaga and everyone else can keep their accents under control – I dig Adam D – but like Ridley why Americans? Why not Italiano(a)s?
Looks fun. I can’t wait.
Gaga’s accent is kind of ridiculous and all over the place, just like her campy performance. This doesn’t look like a contender.
Not loving this one. His other film looks stronger this year.
“Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out to be a pain in the ass”
—Deborah Harry/Blondie
This does not look excellent, or maybe just the trailer is bad.
Think Lady Gaga looks phenomenal.
Alert!
James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” is currently sitting at 78 MC and 97% RT. Of course I can’t think for a split second of the film getting any Oscar consideration beyond technicals (Make Up, Visual Effects, Sound, Costume, maybe Song?), but it certainly looks well positioned for a Golden Globe nomination at Comedy/Musical, and given the cast, I’d say that could be a lock already for a Stunt Ensemble nom at SAG and longshot for a Ensemble nomination.
Not a best picture player, but watch out for Leto and Gaga.
This is my Infinity War.
So, “The Godfather”, in fashion style, with everyone speaking english with faked Italian accent. Make up was a bit cringey but can win the Oscar (I’ve seen worse, being nominated: A Beautiful Mind) with the duo Performer+Make Up… on paper, this can go any way… one of the few films that, right away, I rather see dubbed… really… the italian english made me cringe, big time (and I am really used to hear italians speaking in english, in real life, almost daily… something just doesn’t sound OK in this trailer, can’t really explain)
It looks Mommie Dearest level bad. Possibly camp cult future favorite. All the Razzies for Gaga.
Really? On what basis? Not from where I’m sitting. Look more closely. What you think is bad is intentional flamboyance and sensationalism writ large. Scott doesn’t make camp.
SQUIRREL AND MOOSE! I have never ever sat anywhere near you. And you have no idea what I think.
Camp isn’t always self aware. I referenced Mommie Dearest for you to comprehend that. Scott may not make camp but he is very capable of making crap.
