Rebecca Hall’s Passing, starring Academy Award nominee Ruth Negga and Tessa Thompson, dropped its official trailer today ahead of its premiere October 3 at the New York Film Festival. Originally premiering at Sundance, Passing shares the story of two Black women (Negga and Thompson) who can “pass” as white. The film is set during the Harlem Renaissance of the late 1920s.
Take a look at the trailer below.
Black & white movie overload this year. Looking very gimmicky to me.
I don’t see anything gimmicky about it. It’s a valid choice, like taking/preferring black and white photographs over color photographs.
This looks FANTASTIC, to me. A real movie-movie! And both of these actresses look primed for awards consideration. Can’t wait to watch it.
Thompson will fall out, but Negga can win!
Interesting c0ncept . Executi0n l00ks wr0ng . Neither 0f them l00k like they c0uld pass f0r white .Jeanne Craine in Pinky , Fredi Washigt0n and Susan K0hner in Imitati0n 0f Life B0th versi0ns , Mel Ferrer in L0st B0undries and Anth0ny H0pkins in The Human Stain !
Look at this TV series: Queen (TV Mini Series) starring Halle Berry and Lonnie McKee. They played friends or sisters who were mulatto who were passing. Book was written by Alex Haley. Sometimes I can see a trailer and immediately compare it to another movie or TV show I’ve seen.
This is a lazy response. Who would you cast as a black woman to play someone who “passes” as white?
Back in the day s0me0ne like L0nnette McKee !
And today?
If Ruth Negga doesn’t win Best Supporting Actress, the system is entirely broken.
System is broken long time ago.
That was too easy.
