Variety’s exclusive announces that the Oscars have hired three hosts. Thankfully, though, they have avoided yet again having to hire a white male! Or any male! Any boy or man. Just kidding. I’m sure they will be great. They’re all funny. But really, every choice Hollywood makes, whether it’s hosting a show or casting a movie is done out of fear – fear of bad headlines, fear of Twitter, fear of that wave of hysteria that made them get rid of their host in the first place. Everyone has to take a turn in Shirley Jackson’s The Lottery played out every second of every day.
I think they did a good job here of finding people that will be more or less Teflon. Whether or not they will do the trick of making the show more watchable, I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Here’s hoping.
The three comic forces appear to be the only emcees in the mix for the March awards show, despite several scenarios that telecast creatives have been weighing. Producer Will Packer has been in meetings for weeks trying to find the right recipe for Hollywood’s biggest night.
