2025 Oscars — The Telluride Poster Drops

The heat of the season begins in just a few weeks

It does feel a bit like All Quiet on the Leftern Front at the moment, but we do still have an Oscar race at hand. It is one with an uncertain future, just like Hollywood.  But onward we march for the 25th year at this website, shocking though that might be. Telluride is always a nice calm before the storm, a beautiful town in the mountains with the smell of fresh coffee in the morning, the gentle clanging of plastic badges, the occasional movie star pushing a stroller or having a beer on the main drag. Will it be blistering hot or pouring with rain? One never knows. But it’s coming not too far from now.

Telluride has released its beautiful new poster to celebrate 51 years. Poster Art by Luke Dorman of Meow Wolf. You can buy the poster here.

As of August 1st, Michael Patterson has been attempting to predict what the lineup will be (they don’t announce until the day before the festival begins). And here is what he has predicted (today’s column on his site ruminates on which stars might be in attendance).

1) Anora/Baker – the Palme d’or winner and an opportunity to celebrate the work of the brilliant Sean Baker.
2) Conclave/Berger – a suspense film involving paranoia within the papacy. Based on a bestseller.
3) Emilia Perez/Audiard – a musical with a mob boss who is transgender.
4) The End/Oppenheimer – probably my most anticipated film in the indie realm. It just sounds great.
5) All We Imagine as Light/Kapadia – also looks great to me. A “girls just a wanna have fun” movie set in Mumbai
6) The Piano Lesson/Washington – a Netflix film, and they have provided everything you need to know about it.
7) Nickel Boys/Ross – survival from the trauma of a reform school in Florida.
8) Misrecordia/Guiraudie – seen in Cannes, a French thriller (a la Anatomy of a Fall)
9) Better Man/Gracey – yet another musical, that makes three possible for Telluride.
10) Piece by Piece/Neville – a ilm about the life of Pharrell Williams told with Legos.
And a Bonus Five Bets:
11) The Apprentice/Abassi – Trump fanaticism spilled over into Hollywood — no, you don’t say!
12) A Sudden Glimpse to Deeper Things/Cousins – looks to be an environmental documentary.
13) The Seed of the Sacred Fig/Rasoulof – “paranoia amid political unrest in Tehran”
14) The Friend/Siegel and McGeehee – it sounds good and all but dog lovers beware.
15) Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight/Davitz
Other possibilities:
Maria/Larrain
Megalopolis/Coppola
Separated/Morris
Saturday Night/Reitman
Parthenope/Sorrentino
In the Hand of Dante/Schnabel
Napoleon (new restoration)/Gance
Leonardo DaVinci/Burns
The Actor/Johnson
Memoir of a Snail/Elliot
One on One: John and Yoko/ Macdonald and Rice-Edwards
Harvest/Tsangari
Allegorie Citadine/ Rohrwacher and JR
