In what appears to be yet another fever dream by Hollywood (aka the activist Left) we have a perfect example of how they see their government and the other half of the country. It is also, by the way, how people in many other countries see Americans. There is nothing new here. What I always come back to is that they are fine to use the products that Capitalism built (iphones, social media, the internet, fossil fuels, fast food, movie theaters, Uber, DoorDash, etc) but they also want to appear absolved, as the “good people doing good things” as opposed to the “bad people” who at least admit it.
So that makes Digger not all that different from the Peak Woke movies we’re seeing here in the 2020s. White men bad, everyone else good, rinse, repeat.
Having said all that, how does it stack up for an Oscar win for Tom Cruise at long last? Can he pull it in? Well, considering he plays a loathsome figure, they all hate him; they can channel that hatred and turn his win into a weapon of war. TAKE THAT REPUBLICAN OLIGARCHS! So maybe that could bring home the gold for the guy they would otherwise have ignored.
The worst thing that ever happened to Hollywood is that they decided they were morally superior than their audience and thus, had to “teach” them how to be “better”. I don’t know if that has served them all that well but I know that inside the bubble, Digger will be loved. It is a reflection of exactly how many on TikTok see America, especially Gen-Z. No future, run by aging tyrants, a world destroyed.
