This site was… how do I say it? Relevant!! Finally
I have found something that helped me. Thanks a lot!
Had Steve Carell in my Golden Globe predictions to troll the frontrunners. Took him out for Hanks. I ended up getting trolled.
Don’t know if someone is playing games, but word is spreading on Twitter is that Foxcatcher has just been bumped to 2014!
What’s going on?
So hoping Vanessa Redgrave has a meaty role in this movie so she can get another Oscar nomination. I think she is one of the best actresses living today, way better than Meryl. Still unbelievable Vanessa only has one Oscar and a supporting one at that! She should have won for Bostonians and Isadora.
Even with all the uncertainty hanging on film’s release I always held on to Foxcatcher in my predictions. And boy, does that trailer look amazing. And Carrell fantastic.
Here’s my Best Actor prediction [And yes, it’s a well-thought out list]
1. Chitewel Ejiofor, 12 Years A Slave
2. Robert Redford, All is Lost
3. Matthew McConaughey, Dallas Buyers Club
4. Joaquin Phoenix, Her
5. Steve Carell, Foxcatcher
This was always the film I felt could come out of nowhere to be a serious contender.
Meet your dark horse for Best Picture
In the face of tremendous favoritism for 12 YEARS A SLAVE, THE WOLF OF WALL STREET used to be my dark horse, that is if you can stomach calling that a Martin Scorsese film. I think this one takes its place. It lacks that all-important asset of importance that WOLF would have had to compete with 12 YEARS’, but this right here looks really good. I’m 2 for 2 with Bennett Miller, so my expectations might be a tad unrealistic.
Best Supporting Actor nom for Tatum? Pretty please?
actually jon didn’t ‘dark horse’ come out last year ? 😉
My god, the actor’s race is so competitive. I’m not sure if Carell will be taken seriously even if he gives a good to great performance, so I’m thinking:
Dern
Redford
Phoenix
Ejiofor
McConaughey
This trailer makes me want to see the movie even more now. Chilling and intense. If it’s good, it’ll definitely be nominated for best pic and director. I guess Tatum and Ruffalo will be campaigned as supporting?
I know Steve Carrell can do good acting work, because I thought he was terrific in Little Miss Sunshine. He was totally believable. But, yeah, I think people may not give him the credit he will probably deserve for this role in Foxcatcher. But, remember all the times Jim Carrey was trying to do serious roles, i.e. The Truman Show, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Majestic, and Man on the Moon. No one took him seriously either. Oh well…. 🙁
Well, I think Carell will have a bigger chance now the film is moved to 2014!
The trailer has been taken down 🙁
I will never understand why the studios force their trailers off of YouTube… it’s advertizing! People get excited for a movie when they see the trailer. I am so sorry that it got released a little earlier than you wanted, but get over yourselves.
Did you ever watch HBO’s Entourage? That reminds me of the episode in which someone leaked the Medellin trailer on the internet, and everyone was initially freaking out.
Dang, what an insanely well-cut trailer. Looks so incredible. Not sure why more people aren’t talking about this for awards consideration in more categories.
Because this movie hasn’t been seen yet at any film festival yet. I think once people see it, it will just to near the top of the Oscar BP list. Have no worry. 🙂
sorry, I had a typo. I meant to say jump, not just. Sheesh!
Oh, God…who the HELL will get the ax in Best Actor ? It is safe to say we have two locks (Ejiofor, McConaughey) but who will get the three remaining slots out of these 16 ?
Hugh Jackman
Robert Redford
Idris Elba
Forest Whitaker
Tom Hanks
Bruce Dern
Oscar Isaac
Michael B. Jordan
Ralph Fiennes
not to mention extremely promising, yet-unseen contenders
Steve Carell
Joaquin Phoenix
Michael Fassbender
Christian Bale
George Clooney
Ben Stiller
Josh Brolin
Early hunch ? Ejiofor, McConaughey, Carell, Phoenix, Jackman.
locks
phantom do you not learn?!
Come on, Paddy, can you see either of those two getting the ax ?
Yes. We’re so far out that there’s no way anyone can be called a lock atm.
The very day of Oscar nominations, Ben Affleck and Kathryn Bigelow were much bigger locks than Chiwetel Ejiofor and Matthew McConaughey are three-and-a-half months out now, and look what happened there.
Good point. So to settle this once and for all, let’s just agree that whenever I claim a contender is a lock, I mean that I consider that contender a NEAR-lock a.k.a. on paper he/she could be snubbed but I would be shocked if that happened.
My ridiculously early hunch for Best Actor is that at the end of the day it’ll be between these six…
Ejiofor
Hanks
Redford
Carell
McConaughey
Dern
However I have not seen any of these performances so…
I agree with those 6, unless Leo makes a splash and its a 2013 release
Am I wrong in thinking I thought Dern could be put into supporting or was that a dream?
After it became obvious that Best Actor will be arguably the most competitive category this season, a few bloggers – most prominently Scott Feinberg from THR – suggested that Bruce Dern should be campaigned in supporting, considering the Academy tends to reward underappreciated vets in that category and he might not even get the nomination in lead, but Dern didn’t really like the idea…well, actually he hated it and said something like ‘If I go supporting, I’m a whore’…so unless he and/or the distributor realizes that staying in lead against the Elbas and Carells is VERY risky and decide to change categories in the last minute, he will stay in the lead race…and since NEBRASKA is a wonderful film that seems to pick up considerable steam right now, who knows, he may even make the cut in the end !
I am in the minority maybe, but didn’t think Jackman was all that great in Prisoners (and was a little disappointed in the movie…liked it a lot but thought it could have been fantastic with a couple tweaks). I don’t see him making it.
Joke: You mean acting isn’t just raising your voice and giving a glaring mad look??? LOL 🙂
IDK, I thought he was pretty good myself.
Joaquin Phoenix and Hugh Jackman. Wow. Get ready to eat those words.
Early prediction, of course I’m fully aware it will probably come back to bite me in the ass. Still, I have a hunch HER will be a masterpiece close to impossible to ignore, and Jackman’s star power, willingness to campaign and leftover goodwill from last year, will help him go all the way to the top5. Just a theory…I mean, what else could it be in September ?
I too have a hunch that Her will be excellent, and that if it is, it’ll become a major contender. I can see it winning Supporting Actress and Original Screenplay Oscars very easily.
Bingo. I am not sure it will reach the masses I hope it could but that doesn’t mean it won’t be a masterpiece. I too think Adams will be nominated here and not for Hustle.
I wish people talked more about Jake Gyllenhaal’s performance in PRISONERS. Jackman was fine, he did a good job, but the real stand-out for me was Gyllenhaal. His was by far the most interesting character as well. I wish to see PRISONERS 2 about that detective’s next case. I loved so much all the appearance choices he made; the hair, tats, ring, and especially the shirt always buttoned up all the way, indeed very Gosling-esque
Amen to that! Gyllenhaal was wonderful. I thought Jackman overacted a bit.
