Much ado is being made about the new Indiana Jones trailer being a “viral hit.” To me, a viral hit means something that comes out of nowhere grows in stature because users spread the word, not a movie that is generally anticipated ANYWAY. Ask any kid about the new Indiana Jones movie and chances are they know it’s coming. Here is how the AP runs it down:
After premiering Feb. 14 on “Good Morning America,” Lucasfilm and Viacom Inc.’s Paramount Pictures sent the trailer to the Web, plus movie theaters and TV stations around the world. Paramount estimates the trailer was seen more than 200 million times worldwide in the first week alone.
The problem for the marketing team appears to be that the youth won’t know Indie from Adam. Trust me, folks, the kids know Indie. No worries on that score. Meanwhile, Yahoo movies has posted trailers from all of the Indie movies for reference.
I really lіke what you guys are uѕually up too.
This sort of clever work and coverage! Kеep up the great works guyѕ I’ѵe incоrporated you guys to blogroll.
Hi, I do think thіs is an excellent website. I stumbledupon it 😉 I’m going to return once again ѕince I ѕaved as
a favorite it. Money and freedom is the best way to change, may you be rich
and cоntinue to guide others.
I’m sure all guys who write comments are teens or even younger. If you are older, than shame on you!
Yeah, people hear blockbuster and immediately think, “Mindless, loud, Michael Bay crap” rather than a film of actual substance and merit.
Really, Oscar Nazi. I seem to recall Return of the King sweeping the Oscars not so long ago, and that had quite a lot of CGI in it. Same with Titanic.
The real problem has been that, since LOTR, there haven’t been that many big blockbusters worth nominating.
Yeah, it’s not really a viral hit but an internet hit. Viral would be what Cloverfield did with all their crazy online things, like Slusho.jp, or what The Dark Knight is doing with their websites like WhySoSerious.com, and getting fans to go pick up cakes at bakerys across the country that contain cell phones and instructions. That’s viral. Releasing a video to the internet isn’t quite something like that.
Sorry, Mr. F, but the days of blockbusters being nominated for best picture are dead and gone. Since the birth of CGI, these sorts of movies just haven’t had the same effect that they used to with academy voters.
Yeah, I guess you wouldn’t think people would want to see the trailer for a movie they’ve been waiting a lifetime for. d’oh!
These movies pretty much went right over my head as a kid which is odd because I’m a film geek and my mother is a Harrison Ford fangirl. I never appreciated them as much as I ought to and for that I’m a little ashamed. But, I am strangely very excited about the new one so maybe I’ll become a true fan after all.
I love all the Indy Movies. Harrison Ford has that rugged, male, he man look, that is needed for these movies. I’m 60 years old and can’t wait to see and buy this movie. I hope he never stops making movies, cause his are one of the best ones ever. I would even love A new series of Indiana jones, with maybe a son or grandson taking his place as he gets older, just gotta find the right guy. My age group loves these movies.
Excellent. Almost 20 years later Indy still rules them all. That’s staying power people!
I wonder if it turns out as good as the others if it will be taken seriously come awards time, and therefore bringing back the time when block busters could be nominated for best picture.
I found your site on technorati and read a few of your other posts. Keep up the good work. I just added your RSS feed to my Google News Reader. Looking forward to reading more from you.
