Much ado is being made about the new Indiana Jones trailer being a “viral hit.” To me, a viral hit means something that comes out of nowhere grows in stature because users spread the word, not a movie that is generally anticipated ANYWAY. Ask any kid about the new Indiana Jones movie and chances are they know it’s coming. Here is how the AP runs it down:
After premiering Feb. 14 on “Good Morning America,” Lucasfilm and Viacom Inc.’s Paramount Pictures sent the trailer to the Web, plus movie theaters and TV stations around the world. Paramount estimates the trailer was seen more than 200 million times worldwide in the first week alone.
The problem for the marketing team appears to be that the youth won’t know Indie from Adam. Trust me, folks, the kids know Indie. No worries on that score. Meanwhile, Yahoo movies has posted trailers from all of the Indie movies for reference.
