2016 SAG Television Nominations Announced

SAG Awards

The Screen Actors Guild Award nominations were announced on Wednesday morning, and it seems that the guild played it rather safe. The SAG Awards television nominations didn’t cause as much of a fervor as the film categories, but one thing is definite: never count out Nicole Kidman as Grace Kelly. Empire was surprisingly snubbed. Is this a sign that it’s just an audience favorite and not a sure-fire awards contender?

Idris Elba and Mark Rylance are going to go head to head in two categories, so that is worth noting. Too bad that Kimmy Schmidt was omitted for Ensemble and Actor in a Comedy (for Tituss Burgess), but they got attention at the Emmys. It’s Ellie Kemper’s time to shine.

Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series
Downton Abbey
Game of Thrones
Homeland
House of Cards
Mad Men

Wish Mr. Robot would have gotten in here, but maybe it’s too new?

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series
Peter Dinklage, Game of Thrones
Jon Hamm, Mad Men
Bob Odenkirk, Better Call Saul
Kevin Spacey, House of Cards
Rami Malek, Mr. Robot

Malek is so great in Robot so his presence is very welcome among the big boys.

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series
Claire Danes, Homeland
Viola Davis, How to Get Away with Murder
Julianna Marguiles, The Good Wife
Maggie Smith, Downton Abbey
Robin Wright, House of Cards

No Taraji P. Henson? You’d think SAG would appreciate Cookie’s over-the-top presence on the show, but maybe actors are getting as tired of it as the audience.

Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series
The Big Bang Theory
Key & Peele
Modern Family
Orange is the New Black
Transparent
Veep

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series
Ty Burrell, Modern Family
Louis CK, Louie
William H. Macy, Shameless
Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory
Jeffrey Tambor, Transparent

The Emmys might be over The Big Bang Theory, but not SAG.

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series
Uzo Aduba, Orange is the New Black
Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie
Ellie Kemper, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Veep
Amy Poehler, Parks & Recreation

Yay Ellie Kemper!!!

Ben Kingsley, Tut
Ray Liotta, Texas Rising
Bill Murray, A Very Murray Christmas
