In an epic podcast, the Water Cooler gang catches up on everything in entertainment from holiday films, recent awards, and upcoming TV series.

We’re playing catch-up at the Water Cooler this week. Now that we’re all back and healthy, both physically and mentally, we’re looking at some recent film, television, and awards news we’ve yet to discuss. First, the DGA (both film and TV) and Critics Choice announced this week. On the TV side, what shows popped up at this guild award that could possibly give us a sneak peak at the 2018 Emmy nominations? Then, on the film side, how do the awards shape the Oscar race? Furthermore, how do these recent awards shape our Fantasy Oscar pool?

Then, we’re opening up the floor to a series of films and TV series we’re still finding. What’s going on with The X-Files and does anyone really care? James Franco and Aziz Ansari are the latest personalities stricken with the dreaded sexual misconduct claims. How will these claims affect their careers, and will they hurt Franco’s chances at an Oscar nomination? Finally, we catch up on some big holiday films including Call Me By Your Name and The Greatest Showman. We also preview two hotly anticipated television series: The Handmaid’s Tale Season 2 and The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.

This week, we’re keeping the Holiday spirit in the air in the week between Christmas and New Year’s. We’re continuing Volume 2 of our on-going series Our Favorite Movies with Megan’s pick Holiday Inn. This 1942 musical stars the great Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby with classic music by Irving Berlin. Yes, this film gave us the classic song “White Christmas.” Yet, it also includes some alarming period-specific behavior. We’ll discuss that and more as we close out Our Favorite Movies Volume 2.

In our latest entry in the Our Favorite Movies Volume 2 series, Joey Moser presents one of his personal favorites, the controversial Madonna musical Evita.

This week, Joey prepares to embarrass himself with the huge love that he has for Alan Parker’s Evita. As we’ve done in years past, the Cooler Gang gathers around the water cooler to review the 2017 Amazon pilots. Sometimes, they’re a The Marvelous Mrs. Maizel or Transparent. Sometimes, they’re a Good Girls Revolt or The Interestings. This year’s crop includes the great Glenn Close and comic supporting player Bridgett Everett headlining her own show. We’ll talk about which, if any, of the new shows merit attention. And why does Amazon love to vary the tones of their shows so dramatically?

But first, Thanksgiving marks the last week before film critics start naming their favorite 2017 films and performances. The Cooler Gang gathers ’round the water cooler to give thanks for the great things in 2017 in our Water Cooler Podcast 2017 Thanksgiving edition.
