Episode 105: The Cooler Gang returns to Stars Hollow again and for the very first time in their review of ‘Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.’

This week, we take a look at Netflix’s Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, which dropped this past Friday. How does it flow with the other seasons? Can it stand alone if you’ve never seen a single episode of the original series (cough, cough… Clarence and Joey)? Plus, what are the Girls’ Emmy chances? And do we think the ending is cause for another season in this show? We also talk TBS’s Search Party starring Alia Shawkat who you may know from another popular Netflix reboot, Arrested Development. Is this show a turning point for the Must See TV-rerun network? Or is it a series destined for a cult following?

As always, we close with the Flash Forward to the television we’re most anticipating in the upcoming week.

AwardsDaily TV team members Joey Moser and Jalal Haddad join Clarence Moye to review today’s Critics’ Choice Television Awards nominations in an emergency Water Cooler Podcast. They go category by category and discuss the surprises, the omissions, and the mysterious nominations for series that didn’t actually air in 2016.

Join us next Monday for our regularly scheduled episode.

Episode 103: The Cooler Gang reviews Netflix’s new series The Crown and weighs in on its Emmy hopes.

This week at the Water Cooler, we’re doling out the Xanax with Prozac chasers. We look past recent political events and focus on politics of a different era. Netflix’s The Crown is an expensive and ambitious series that will eventually explore 60 years of England’s Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. Was the money worth it? Perhaps more importantly, what insights do series creator Peter Morgan and crew give us into one of the most famous women in the world? And will this eagerly anticipated series fill the awards season sweet spot vacated by PBS’s Downton Abbey?

As always, we’ll close with the Flash Forward to the television we’re most anticipating in the upcoming week.

Episode 102: The Cooler Gang anticipates Tuesday’s election by reviewing and casting political films.

This week at the Water Cooler, we’re changing out the water for vodka as the 2016 election cycle finally draws to an end. To prepare for… well, whatever happens with Tuesday’s vote, we take a look at two important TV political films brought to us by All the Way’s Jay Roach. First up, 2008’s Recount recalls the immediate aftermath of the 2000 Gore/Bush election contest. Then, 2012’s Game Change tackles the 2008 election year which brought Sarah Palin onto the world stage. We take a deep look at both political films and consider how their stories resonate in the modern political cycle. Finally, we’ll play a much-beloved ADTV game: Cast the TV Movie! This week, we’re casting the inevitable film version of the 2016 election. That’s right, we’re casting Trump, Hillary, Melania, Bill, Kellyanne Conway, Billy Busy… The whole damn sick and twisted crew.

Episode 101: The Cooler Gang celebrates Halloween by obsessing over Netflix’s Black Mirror. And some other things too…

This week at the Water Cooler, in observance of All Hallows Eve, we take a look at three thrilling television shows new this Fall that range in scariness from titillating to terrifying. First up, we look at FOX’s remake of the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show, unnecessarily subtitled “Let’s Do the Time Warp Again.” Does the remake stand with previous versions of the musical? What does it offer that previous versions haven’t? Speaking of remakes, we take a SPOILERY look at FOX’s other big thriller remake, The Exorcist. Finally, we look into (and obsess over) Black Mirror, Netflix’s sci-fi/horror series that echoes the great The Twilight Zone.

As always, we’ll close with the Flash Forward to the television we’re most anticipating in the upcoming week.

Episode 100: The Cooler Gang welcomes a special guest to celebrate their 100th podcast.

This week at the Water Cooler, we’re celebrating our official 100th podcast by tripping and stumbling down memory lane. We revisit some of our very favorite podcast (or in some cases website) moments over the past two years. Yup, it’s a clip show! Then, we look forward to next year and make a bold prediction or three around Emmy 2017. What shows will make it big? What will be the next shocking omission? How will Joey cope with the Limited Series actress category that could possibly contain Jessica Lange, Susan Sarandon, Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, and Michelle Pfeiffer?

Before that, we talk about two current events: the recent revelation of the American Horror Story: Roanoke Big Twist and a particular Saturday Night Live skit that we feel owes us a writing credit.

And as always, we’ll close with the Flash Forward to the television we’re most anticipating in the upcoming week.

Episode 99: The Cooler Gang revisits the great 30 Rock on its 10th anniversary.

This week at the water cooler, we’re blurghing our way into the 10th anniversary of NBC’s classic showbiz sitcom 30 Rock. Developed by Tina Fey and starring Fey, Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan, and Jane Krakowski, the series rose above subpar ratings to dominate awards ceremonies over its 7-year run. To celebrate, we’re offering up 10 noteworthy episodes for discussion. These may not necessarily be The 10 Best Episodes, but they’re certainly ones we haven’t forgotten.

Before we leap into 30 Rock, we’ll take a quick look at American Horror Story: Roanoke midway through its run and hypothesize what surprises are in store for its sixth episode. We’ll also follow up last week’s Dynasty conversation with a quick look at some recently announced reboots.

Episode 98: The Cooler Gang tackles Clarence’s wicked Halloween television quiz.

This week at the Water Cooler, we’re getting in the mood for Halloween with a scarily great horror television quiz devised by yours truly. Who has the chops when it comes to their savage horror tv knowledge?  Find out as Megan and Joey duke it out. Before that, we’re going to put on our casting hats. The CW recently announced it would reboot the classic 80s soap Dynasty. We’ll take a look at who should fill the four major roles should the series go to pilot. Also, as it is both Halloween and a political season, we talk about the reaction to Donald Trump’s latest controversy and how that impacts Billy Bush.

As always, we close with the Flash Forward of what television most excites us in the upcoming week.

Episode 97: The Cooler Gang looks at three major new HBO Fall TV series including Westworld.

Welcome to our 2016 HBO Fall TV Extravaganza! The pedigreed pay-cable programmer rolls out three major new series this fall, starting with the controversial Westworld which premiered last night. Then, premiering next Sunday are two highly anticipated series. First, Divorce marks the return of Sex and the City’s Sarah Jessica Parker to the HBO lineup. Then, Insecure showcases a new voice in comedy in an engaging new series. We talk about each show and look at whether or not each are candidates for awards attention. Or are they just another The Brink or Togetherness on the HBO pile of prestige programming?

Before that, we look quickly (because who can stand to look too long) at last week’s first 2016 Presidential debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Did this make for good television? How did this stack up against other major debates? What sound bites will resonate with the viewing public?

As always, we close with the Flash Forward of what television most excites us in the upcoming week.
