TV News: Doctor Who Joins Netflix/Marvel Project, Pilot Season and more

Casting – Current/Returning Shows

Chicago P.D. Nick Gehlfuss (Shameless) has been cast in a recurring role as Jay’s brother Ryan in the NBC drama and will also appear in the potential spinoff Chicago Med. (TVLine)

Gotham. Colm Feore (The Borgias) will play Dr. Francis Dulmacher, aka The Dollmaker. Fans of the show will remember the character being mentioned in the second episode by Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova) as the mastermind responsible for kidnapping street kids. According to the source: “With a zealotry bordering on madness, and aided by his genius-level intellect and vast medical expertise, Dr. Dulmacher pursues his demented researches, even as the bloody costs of his actions grow ever greater.” (Deadline)

Casting – New Shows

Telenovela. Amaury Nolasco (Prison Break) will play show-within-a-show baddy Rodrigo on Eva Longoria’s upcoming NBC comedy which was ordered straight to series just over a week ago. Longoria plays the star of a popular telenovela whose private life is far more dramatic than what’s on screen. Other added cast members include Jencarlos Canela (Hunted by Night) as Longoria’s co-star heartthrob and Diana Maria Riva (The Bridge) as Longoria’s best friend. (THR).

Angie Tribeca. Adam Scott will guest on his former Parks and Recreation co-star Rashida Jones‘ upcoming parody of police procedurals on TBS. He’ll play a doctor Jones’ LAPD detective character meets at the hospital while awaiting news on her partner’s condition. Executive produced and created by Nancy Carrell (Steve’s wife), Angie Tribeca is planned for this summer. (EW)

A.K.A Jessica Jones. David Tenant (Doctor Who) has joined this Marvel/Netflix show starring Krysten Ritter (The B— in Apt. 23) as a troubled former super hero who opens her own detective agency. He’ll play the villain Zebediah Killgrave aka The Purple Man who can control people’s minds and has the ability to heal quickly. The 13-episode series will premiere later in 2015. (EW)

Casting – Pilots

Clan of the Cave Bear. Actress-model Millie Brady (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) has won the lead in Lifetime’s pilot based on Jean M. Auel’s series of caveman novel. The pilot was written by Linda Woolverton (Maleficent). (Deadline)

Pilot Season! Duck Season! Pilot Season! Rabbit Season!

Casanova. Amazon has ordered a pilot about famous 18th century playboy Giacomo Casanova from Stu Zicherman, writer-producer of FX’s The Americans. The story takes place in Paris where a penniless Casanova has fled a Venice prison to start his life over. (Deadline)

Rush Hour. CBS has greenlit an hour-long pilot with a production commitment based on the hit Chris Tucker/Jackie Chan action comedy. Director Brett Ratner is one of the executive producers along with co-writer Bill Lawrence (Cougar Town). (Deadline)

Super Clyde. CBS actually ordered this single-camera comedy pilot from Greg Garcia in 2013 at the same time they ordered his pilot for The Millers. The latter got ordered to series only to have it cancelled this fall. With Garcia once again available for pilot season, he’s taking another crack at Super Clyde about “a meek, unassuming fast-food worker who finds his calling.” The original pilot starred Rupert Grint and Stephen Fry. (Deadline)
