ADTV contributors Clarence Moye, Joey Moser, Megan McLachlan and I (Craig Kennedy, your editor) make predictions for Monday night’s Emmy telecast. Be sure to join us at Twitter hashtag #EmmysADTV on Monday night when the four of us will be live tweeting our reactions as the winners and losers unfold.
In the mean time, check out our will/should picks after the jump. Majority “will win” predictions (if any) are highlighted in green. Majority “should win” picks (if any) are highlighted in a lighter shade of green if they match the “will win” predictions or yellow if they’re different:

Well in the last couple of months, I’ve binge watched “True Detective” and “Breaking Bad” (the whole series). I’m sorry but I still want “Game of Thrones” to win. This was an absolutely amazing season that solidified the show in my mind as the greatest television series of all-time. I’m sick and tired of genre bias. These other shows were good if great-ish. I agree with most that “Ozymandias” is one of the greatest single episodes ever but still. Some of the plot of “Breaking Bad” was more fantastical than dragons and white walkers. But I didn’t like the Mike subplot at all and I’ve liked the actor, Jonathan Banks, since his “Wiseguy” days. I know enough by now that’s it’s buzz and momentum and I might actually go with Aaron Paul over the Dink in the end. But it’s a weird thing these Emmys. I can’t predict them. But I’ll list my choices. (FYI, I barely watch TV)
Outstanding Comedy Series – “Louie” *
Outstanding Drama Series – “Game of Thrones”
Outstanding Variety Series – “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”
Outstanding Miniseries – “Fargo” *
Outstanding Television Movie – “The Normal Heart” (I didn’t like it but it’s pretty obvious)
Outstanding Reality, Competition Program – DWTS
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series – Don Cheadle *
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series – Taylor Shilling *
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series – Bryan Cranston
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series – Robin Wright *
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie – Billy Bob Thornton * (I really didn’t like Mark Ruffalo’s performance)
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie – Cicely Tyson *
Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series – Tony Hale *
Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series – Kate McKinnon
Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series – Peter Dinklage
Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series – Lena Headey
Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie – Matt Bomer
Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie – Ellen Burstyn *
*means I didn’t watch it so I’m guessing. Sad, right?
My love for both True Detective and Breaking Bad are boundless… honestly I’m torn between which one I want to win, though I favor TD because Breaking Bad has already won and because TD will have a whole new cast and story next season.
Having said that, Game of Thrones is spectacular and pretty much unlike anything else on TV. If it pulls of an upset and wins, I’ll still be pretty happy.
The only way GOT wins is if votes are split between Breaking Bad and True Detective, I think. Honestly, though, there isn’t a stinker in the bunch.
if Downton Abbey wins, I will punch a kitten in the face
Ha. I forgot DA was nominated. Well, it’s not awful. If you do punch a kitten, then can we put that on you tube? It’s the new ALS challenge.
DA is like The King’s Speech. It’s harmless but has no business being in the room with the other nominees.
If you punch my kitten, I can assure you, he’d punch you back…. Well, he’d at least bite. 🙂
Your kitten is safe, Al. Besides, no way in hell Downton wins
I don’t think the Mike plot is included in this years qualifying episodes. I think its just based on the final 8.
Connor, I think you’re correct. Just the second half of the final season. Which is another reason I think it’ll win. It was SO FANTASTIC, those last 8 episodes.
I’ll give my predictions for Drama, Comedy, and Miniseries
Drama – Breaking Bad. I LOVED True Detective’s first season, BUT, I can’t go against the 2nd half of the final season of Breaking Bad. In the words of Jesse Pinkman: “Yeah Bitch!”
Comedy – Orange is the New Black. I think Piper and her fellow prisoners are gonna take it. A first for Netflix.
Miniseries – Fargo. It is NOT the movie, which I think is what makes is SO GOOD! It’s probably the surest of these 3 catagories.
Enter your predictions in the contest!
For the record though, I think Scandal should have been nominated for Drama. Season 3 is terrific!!
THANK YOU!!!
Absolutely. I think Scandal doesn’t get enough credit for how good it is. It’s Melodrama in the White House. How could you beat that?
Of all the tv shows nominated tonight, the 2 best single episodes are:
Breaking Bad – Ozymandias (Season 5, Episode 14)
and
Fargo – Buridan’s Ass (Season 1, Episode 6)
True Detective on its worst week was better than Fargo on its best
I’ve been re-watching True Detective, and I think it’s brilliant. But, I spread my love around too much. I’m a TV whore. 🙂
I’m just glad both are nominated, and that both could win.
I never try and call these. We always get re-repeats, but al least Candice Bergen, Betty White & John Laroquette aren’t nominated.
Anything new is exciting, so big cheers here if Adam Driver, Robin Wright, and Christina Hendricks pull off a surprise. Dreading “awright-awright-awright” and the subsequent humility speech, but that’s just me.
Yeah the lack of imagination year in and year out is disappointing.
Really wished The Good Wife made it back to the lineup but life is about disappointments.
